time for a 2 step?

first I need to install the limited slip that I have sitting in my garage… the car walks sideways so easily right now - but apart from that I’m loving my first winter with RWD…

if anything hit CL or buy the one all the way at the botom. the 2sroke snow blowers are almost useless at anything over 2 inches of snow.

I know if I had a snowblower on CL right now the price just went up

Get a real snowblower. I have one of the 2 strokes and it is only good for about 6" of fresh snow and it will not touch the stuff at the end of the driveway. I worked out a deal with the old lady next door to me… I’ll clean her driveway if she lets me use her real snowblower to do it and mine.

alright, i got a 6hp ariens, not the one in the ad. he had like 5 of them and the one in the ad shit the bed when he test drove it. so the one i have works great. it just needs a throttle cable. it is newer and cheaper, $275.

and im not sure if its supposed to do this, but it seems to get bogged down real easy. maybe the governor is mis-adjusted or something? anything over 5 or 6 inches i have to go forward, stop, wait for it to clear then move ahead. when it is idling it will get way up there in the rpm’s then it seems to have no balls when moving snow. if i put it in 2-4th gear it will move real fast but cant keep up with the snow. and first gear is so damn slow. i need a 1.5 gear, lol.

any ideas?

sounds like your carb adjustments are off.
does this ariens have a white engine on it? if it does u prolly need to replace the points.

as for the gear speeds, u prolly need to adjust the linkage some…

I enjoy shoveling! rarrr

I have a 1970’s Ariens. they are great. Yes I usually use it in 1st gear, very slow, but it wont bog down that way. you may want to take the carb bowl off and clean out any junk. that helped mine a lot. I have a 7hp 24" and it throws snow into the neighbors driveway!

I had a toro before. it would get clogged up all the time.

Also avoid the home depot version of the ariens. Ariens makes a cheaper version to sell to home depot, than it does for other stores.

just got back in from using it today and it did a lot better in this time. first gear is a tank, it can make it way through banks taller that the snow blower is. i was clearing by the road and it got clogged a few times with the thick wet mush. ill probably deal with it until its warm out since i dont have a garage. i do keep it out if the weather though, its under the stairs to the second floor apartment.

saturday it took me 2 hours to do the drive way and parking area, today it took me an hour. the amount of snow seemed the same. idk.

i dont think its the linkage as far as the speed is concerned. but first does sometimes slip out of gear but 2-4/5 are great.

Spray silicone all over it

that sounds like a good idea, prob wd40 first to melt the snow then silicone

X…

i have always shoveled, even driveways bigger than the one i have now, but its in town with my house on one side and a wooden fence on the other, so eventually it would be impossible to shovel. plus i have a rock driveway and now i have a 2" base built up that the snow blower rides on, a shovel probably wouldn’t do that.

The new Ariens are pretty good too, just expensive, but if I get nearly the life of our previous blowers out of it, it will be well worth the investment:

You can get a small new Ariens from a local dealer for about the same price as a Craftsman:

The website prices are way off from what you actually pay I think. But right now…when snow falls the prices climb.

i just picked up that $800 Ariens from home depot today… thing works fucking awesome and seems way more substantial that the comparable craftsman one.

yanked it out of the back of the truck, put gas in first pull start off it goes no issues and cleared all of the plow crap from the end of the driveway no problem.

didn’t have the money at all because of christmas but shovling my long ass driveway is no longer something i am interested in doing anymore. :stuck_out_tongue:

^thats the one we we’re planning to buy but at the time none were left so we got the bigger one from a dealer. Credit before the crunch (ok 06’) FTW.

lol i ended up getting the depot credit card and the 6 mos 0% is nice fa sho.

however they gave me an astronomically high credit line which is bad news bears for me.
