There is Misc items trader thread

sorry, i didnt plan on starting it as a wtb thread, its more of a which to buy

seems a little late for that.

better off on craigslist getting something bigger, used

Craftsman 2-stage 24", is that what’s in the bottom pic? I just bought one a few weeks ago for $599. If it’s $550 not it’s a great price. I had a single stage like the first two you posted and they are useless, they clog up with any sort of wet snow that is at the end of the driveway. Useless P.O.S’s.

get the 2 stage.

EDIT: I see the 2-stage is a Troy-built 24", it’s pretty much exactly like the one I just bought at Sears, I just got done using it 10 minutes ago, it easily handled today’s snowfall.

Offer him $300.

Screw that plastic fantastic craftsman garbage. My Ariens was built somewhere around 1970 and I use it to clear the end of my neighbors driveway when his POS new craftsman bogs down.

Another one:

That Airens POS is the same as my Craftsman but…older. Meh. No electric start, and likely everything is worn out.

Haha yeah right, the old Airens and Toro snowblowers are probably the best that were ever made. The craftsman snowblowers they sell now are flimsy pieces of shit. I had to fix my neighbors for him about 3 times because different things kept breaking.

And PS they do have electric start.

lol @ you for even putting crapsman in the same sentence as a Airens

love my Ariens, but it certainly wasnt cheap

You know cars, but you don’t know snowblowers.

I’ve had people tell me if the motor on mine ever dies and I’m not going to fix it to let me know because they’ll buy it off me because “they just don’t make the frames like these old ones”. I wouldn’t mind picking up a craftsman from the 80’s, early 90’s, but the stuff they sell today is garbage. Plastic chutes, plastic chute aiming levers… shit breaks the first time you try to use it below 20 degrees.

AND PS, the first one I linked does have electric start.

I just put some money into my grandpa’s old Ariens he left in the garage when I bought the house. Much like the first one JayS posted. That thing is a beast and built strong unlike all that new crap. Starts up almost every time will 1 pull. I even have an electric start but I have yet needed a reason to use it.

Classics FTW

i alredy sent the first guy an email, and he is in batavia which is 25 mins from me. well prob 45 with all the idiots out on the roads.

you think 300 would be fair?

Old Ariens blowers are like Hondas, only better they really don’t break.

Ariens for the win!
Workhorses!

And agreed…2 stage or nothing. Single stage you’ll end up shoveling anyhow if it’s packed or slushy.

I’ve heard good things about Ariens, but I don’t have a grand+ to drop on a snowblower. I have a Honda snowthrower now probably early 90s. It starts clogging while going over a dusting. :frowning:

It didn’t always start with one pull…:eekdance:

I agree, “they dont make them like they used to”. the old airens and old red toros are tanks. All metal everything, no plastic pulleys and crap like that.
5hp will do most of your needs, but 8hp is what I would buy for the heavier snows.

If you need one now, that troy built will probably do the job.

good thread…

for now I currently launch out of my garage (left a couple nice stripes).
then when I came home, I launched from across the street and made it into my garage.

while fun, this will not work as a long term solution.
