I was looking at my heating bills from Jan. and February…some were close to $200. God damn. It was cold as fuck last winter though…and I was still outside grillin’ like a villian.
Heat bills from last year, First $ amount is ECA rate, 2nd is what I would have paid had I been buying from National Fuel:

Keep in mind I am heating about 4500 sq. ft. with ceilings that are as high as 26 feet. It is a lot of cubic footage to heat… and I have 45 (large) windows which does not help.

If they didn’t export a ton of propane to China and elsewhere last year my bills would have been lower. FUUUUUUUU!
My highest bill last year was ~ $170 from and estimated month. The next month was around $100 on an actual read.
We just about doubled our square footage in the new house. I’m not looking forward to this years heating bills.
You have a forced air furnace or boiler? High efficient?
how the hell do you guys keep your house at 72. that is warm as shit! anything over 67 is uncomfortable for me. like when my girlfriends house is upwards of 78. fuck that shit.
x 4 fucking million.
70 when we’re awake, 64 at night or during the day when we’re at work.
Forced air vs boiler makes a difference in how warm 70 feels too.
pfft at night we let that shit drop below 60.
Forced hot air. The guy that sold it to me asked me if it ever shuts off when I told him how much propane it uses.
You guys are nuts! If I woke up and it was ~60 in the house I wouldn’t make it out of bed. This would lead to unemployment so keeping mine at 72 when im up and 70 when I go to bed is actually part of my long term financial plan.
Wow 70? Im usually set to 63-65 and turn it off during the day.
I can’t sleep above 68. I can’t really sleep below 68 either though.
I highly recommend a heated mattress pad, the feeling of laying down on a nice toasty mattress is in my top 5 feels.
I don’t know much about propane but most furnaces have conversions for the gas valve. So I’d imagine you can have a 95%er that burns propane.
Do you know what your furnace is rated at for efficiency?

At night I do lower it to like 66.
94.1%. I believe the orifice can be changed for natural gas. I may have mentioned before that the gas company wanted $7000 to run a gas line back.
I have purchased another piece of equipment that I am experimenting with. :snky:
A gas line like for natural gas? How long and far? From where the street?

I think the highest efficiency furnace available is like 97% which is a two stage unit, so I don’t know how you can save money with a different setup unless you go natural gas but I’m sure you would if you could.
heatpump?
Roughly 1500 feet from the street.
