We try to hold out until as late in October as we could. We just put new windows and siding on our house and it changed the inside temp drastically.
We have a gas fireplace in our family room and usually use that as our primary heat. It’s more efficient and you can feel it through the entire lower part of the house. We hardly use our furnace with the gas fireplace.
Throw some extra covers on the bed and wear heavier pajamas and I’m fine. No need to jack up the heat.

Nope, pure cast iron radiant. i didn’t get the fan for it either. If i start it up, say saturday morning, put a total of 5 small logs in it through the course of the day, it gets up to about 1500 degrees. Then i let it kindle through the night, and it will keep the house nice and warm through sunday night. Best $800 i ever spent. of course, good old dad provides a couple cords of wood from his land for free every year…so that helps.
GF is sick. Heat went on.
66 in the house this morning but toughed it out. If we get enough sun to warm that brick up I might not need it tonight.
Really, it’s become a game at this point. Even if I turned it on it would only be for about 10 minutes to take the chill off.
59 in the house now, heat is going on for about 20 minutes to boost it a bit. gonna wanna come into warmth after working on the cars this morning.

Yeah, house is about to touch 65, which means I’m finishing my HVAC work tonight and turning the furnace on.
Where I live the old people around my apartment keep thier heat on at like 80, it keeps my apartment nice and toasty without me ever turning on my heat.
Is it bad that I still have the air conditioning on in my apartment?
