Who makes the rules?

You always seem to jump straight to what I’m slowly working towards. :lol

LOL My bad, I’ll sit back down now. :lol

Well you’ve already ruined my fun, you might as well continue posting. :lol

In this country, in theory, sure.

Government is a wide term that is present throughout human history.

Was the government “you” in the middle ages with a king and queen? Rules existed than as well, morals existed too, don’t try to tie government to just today.

And even today, how is the government to the 50% of population that didn’t vote at all or voted for the other person? They didn’t want this, they didn’t chose it.

Did you vote for the gubernator in Cali? He is part of “your” government…

Go on.

Whats your point here? My Voltaire joke was serious, read about the enlightenment, it couldnt directly relate more to your questions.

The government (today) reacts to the information it is given. If only 50% of the people participate, the government will act on that input. The other 50% are SOL - how are you to represent them when they wont tell you what they want? Unfortunately, most of the people that do vote religiously are the nutjobs at either end of the spectrum which is why we have 2 parties that dont represent the majority of the nation.

And the governor of California is not part of my government because he does not govern me. If he did govern me, I would’ve had a chance to vote for him and on his policy (unless you live in DC…).

I’m not referring to jack shit bro. No human has ever been able to answer the question of where we came from or why things are the way they are with any sort of proof. That includes the Christians and the Atheists. I’m surprised to see you, of all people, insinuate that my opinion is based, once again, on the Bible. It’s not. It’s a fact. No one has ever been able to answer the age old questions, and no one ever will. Again, our minds just can’t handle it. It is what it is (meaning the stuff we do, how we feel, etc.). People can only offer suggestions…like Adam and Eve or Monkeys.

You took that too literally. I didn’t mean we can’t comprehend EVERYTHING that we don’t see. But when it comes to the big complex questions like how the first human came to be…we humans can’t comprehend it without seeing TANGIBLE proof. Again, we can only offer suggestions of Adam and Eve or Monkeys. Belief doesn’t have to be tangible.

Not really sure of what you’re trying to catch me on here. All I’m saying is that it is what it is. We just naturally don’t like to be robbed and when we are, we fight over it (either civilly or violently). If you notice the end of my paragraph, I said, “Or something stupid like that”…that was supposed to be taken as kind of a not serious attempt at answering that question. I guess what I was trying to get at is that I don’t think one person came up with the concept of theft. It was a natural instinct placed in us. We’re territorial and don’t like our stuff taken from us. So, no one made that ‘rule’. It was ingrained in us from the moment we took our first breath of air.

I agree. But that doesn’t answer the question of where that ‘nature’ comes from. No one can answer that question for certain. Is it something we’re born with automatically? Is it something we’re taught? If it’s taught, how did the first human come to realize it? Or was it instilled by a higher being of some sort?

Hence my point that we can’t comprehend half the crap we wonder about and why debating such deep things as this is nothing more but a way to kill time. No one is going to get any closer to answering any sort of questions by reading a thread like this, or participating in a thread like this.

We don’t know why we are the way we are in majority of aspects. We know VERY little about ourselves in terms of man kinds history and how it originated. We know what happened after humans began to live in groups, etc. but not of how the first man came to be, etc. Again, I reiterate, it’s all just a bunch of suggestions. A lot of it is BELIEF, not fact. Atheists have beliefs just like Christians do. I’m not in the business of telling people their beliefs are wrong. You believe whatever the hell you want. We’ll find out who was right in the end.

Now if you want to discuss something like politics in this manner, that is game because politics was invented by us and we know how it originated, etc. Those questions can be answered with a more definite answer. But when it comes to why we steal, or why we like to go fast, or where the first man came from, that’s all suggestions and thoughts and beliefs. Nothing else.

Does society in general accept these things? Did society in general accept rule by royalty? Yes, they did. Society followed the rules of the time while slowly evolving them to fit the needs of society as a whole. If you didn’t want to abide by the rules of this society you can move to a place where you can create your own and follow your own rules, in your own words, you “didn’t sign a contract”. You’re free to leave if you wish.

But WHY do we have the government? Who says that what it says and dictates is right? Was there a vote on the bailout? No. It was under it’s own control for that, not by you.

You say move, move where? Everything is owned by somebody with a government protecting it’s ownership.

Why is killing bad? It’s natural.

The first man who, having fenced in a piece of land, said “This is mine,” and found people naive enough to believe him, that man was the true founder of civil society. From how many crimes, wars, and murders, from how many horrors and misfortunes might not any one have saved mankind, by pulling up the stakes, or filling up the ditch, and crying to his fellows: Beware of listening to this impostor; you are undone if you once forget that the fruits of the earth belong to us all, and the earth itself to nobody.

If you’re going to make intentionally dense statements to spur conversation, you need to hide it a little better than that. :lol

Read a history book. Go back a few thousand years for a background, skim your way up to the 15th century, then read carefully until 2009.

And we didnt vote on the bailout because the US is a republic. We vote for representatives to decide what’s best for us. If you don’t like how the bailout went down, vote for a representative that better represents YOUR views.

Instead, people have no idea how the government works, its history, how many seats in the house and the senate, when they can vote for them, what their policies are, etc etc. Then they just bitch about the results on the internet.

Unlike the wild, we don’t need to kill others of our own species for food, etc. in most of the world. And unlike animals, we tend to understand that no one else should be able to take our life from us, etc.

Seriously, this is sociology 101 meets 17th-18th century revolution.

Ilya, take notes.

Yet the goverment says it’s alright to kill others over objects and land? Look at the quote above, the Earth belongs to nobody but all of us. Killing each other over territories and minerals and food has been everpresent, all ruled to by governent, same government that says don’t kill each other, when it should have an ammendment saying “unless they don’t agree”

I agree that it shouldn’t be done. But people in power get greedy. Us minions can’t do anything about it. Don’t take it to heart so much. Your hands are clean.

You’re just quoting a belief that the majority of citizens dont subscribe to. Islamic extremists want to kill Americans, but we dont subscribe to that either.

Not with that attitude. You guys are so eager to distance yourself from government!! It gives them all the power that you think they already have!

I was referring to the greed. We can’t do anything about that. Our government is corrupt. You will NEVER make it just perfect and strictly for the people. It is and always will be ‘for myself’ with many politicians. If you think/believe otherwise, well…good luck. Vote hard!

So instead of revolution, you’ll just give up and do nothing? I thought you Russians had some zeal?

The way life is doesn’t bother me. I don’t have guns, so my gun rights aren’t being infringed upon (I heard the guys talking about these new laws they want to push out at lunch the other day).

I don’t drink, smoke, etc. so I don’t give a shit about drinking age laws, taxes on certain products, etc.

I’m get a decent salary, so I’m not THAT worried about taxes, etc. I do well for myself.

I have good medical insurance, so I don’t need this universal medical crap they are trying to pass.

I have nothing to complain about. As long as I have my job, food in my stomache, a place to live, and clothes on my back I’m happy. Hence why I don’t give a shit. There are many more examples, but you get my point.

Jclark disagrees.

If the government is greedy>you’re greedy.
