Who the FUCK sprays water on roads!?

Coming home tonight, literally about 3 seconds from my house…turning right off of Highway Six onto Campbellville Rd… a nice wide corner I usually can take pretty fast. Tonight I was doing about 55, far below what is “fast” on that corner. Just as I get about 45 degrees into the corner…all I can see is ice.

A truck apparently came down my road, and watered down the WHOLE THING. TWICE on the westbound lane. It was that familiar pattern of water that the dust-control trucks use. However…my road is not dusty. The hasn’t been a need for that truck in 5 years since the road got done. WHAT THE FUCK! why now? and why was the truck spraying between the hours of 6 (when I left the same way) and 10:30???

Anyways…pure black ice+speed=car in opposite ditch. I managed to get it slowed down enough that it didn’t hit with much impact…and the damage isn’t TOO bad…however its still a new fender, and a shit-ton of work to be done on my bumper.

Do you think there is any point in contacting the city? The damage will be minimal, but I’ll still need to get my replacement fender painted. I took pictures of the damage, so maybe I’ll make a complaint tomorrow. Can you see me getting anywhere with it?

Here is some pictures.

Its more of a piss off than anything…but I’m glad no one got hurt.

I think it’s called rain :dunno:

Take it to the city for sure. It is the city’s responsibility to keep the roads safe. if it was icey, it should if been salted. My grade 11 auto teacher did somting like that for a camary. got a new steel rim from toyota.

So. get an estamate. put somthing together, pics of the road too maybe??

thats all i know.

though break man. they spray clean roads cause they need to use up all the funds this year so they will get the same next year, didn’t you see the the movie ‘Falling Down’? but seriously, when you really think about it it could have been alot worse.

you can vent to the city if it will make you feel better, but don’t waste your time and energy that you should put back into your car.

gl

peace

It hasn’t rained since last night, every other road within 50k is completely dry.

I don’t think I will bother claiming it to the city… its minor damage, and I’ve got several parts cars for a reason.

I will be yelling at someone tomorrow though. Spraying roads is one thing, but spraying at 8 at night with zero-ish temperatures expected is fucking stupid, regardless.

well besides the fact if it was rain,
I see that sometimes, I actually saw it around
a neighbourhood that I take a shortcut thru…

they usually do that @ night for some reason,
it’s kinda fun knowing it’s wet to get a nice slide…

but not cool if u unexpectingly come across a wet road,
especially @ the speeds ur talking bout taking corners @ lol…
just be careful next time man, sometimes u gotta avoid these things.

Yeah… agreed. However the corner is less than 90 degrees…and can be taken at 80 if you play it right. I could take it at 55 with a cop behind me and he wouldn’t have a problem with it. He’d probably pull me over for fun, but its not that fast for that corner.

If you were driving fast enough for that to happen, you weren’t in control of your car.

Driver error = fail.

Not the city’s fault, although I agree with you on the wtf watering.

if you contact the city dont forget to tell the part of the story about your speeding/fast driving around the corner

i only stidied law for a breif period of time and still am continuing to do so today, but for what its worth, thats going to win your case right there

your case would be even better if this corner has one of those suggested speed signs posted - usually 30 kms, theyre yellow

anyways, were going to start seeing alot of this between now and the next 3-4 weeks as drivers forget their winter driving ettiquete and learn the hard way as they make that gradual transission

even if it wasnt raining, its still gets very cold out at night now, which means colder tires, which means less grip, which means dont speed

but ill stop playing bad cop, yes it does suck that they watered the road and its uncalled for in my opinion

Whooow! Wait a minute.

Your 240 isn’t white!

Hahahaha, that’s like putting up sticks for rollerbladers to trip on. Evil, but awesome

i hate those water trucks that cleant he road, they come on my road when its all clean and make it dirty. dumbasses bring all the dust from the new roads to my area.

You bastards :frowning: I did that for 4 years as my job. Haha now that I think about it that water you slipped on paid for my 240. BAHAHAHA

Dude, why do you keep talking about how fast people can take the corner?

You can take most highway on ramps at 180kmh but that’s something you shouldn’t be doing in the first place.

I was trying to give some reference into the nature of the corner. I.e. its not a super tight hairpin with houses on either side and cars parked on the side of the road. I was going faster than ordinary, but it wasn’t really too far outside of what would be considered normal for that particular corner. Regardless, I’m not trying to shirk driver error here, I WAS going faster than ordinary, because it is a fun corner that CAN be taken fast normally. Not a car in sight, perfectly dry roads, and 2 minutes from my house.

Had I not been going so fast I wouldn’t have hit as hard as I did, but even at normal speeds my tires/light car wouldn’t have allowed stopping, or even slowing down on the ice that had formed. My mom’s f250 with four-wheel drive ON, was spinning all four tires pulling me out of the ditch…not because she was really working that hard, but because it was literally that slick.

As of right now, my car is almost back to normal, so I’m really not that bent out of shape… had I had reason to think my road was going to be icy, or that the corner had of been ANY different than it was 3 hours before… then I wouldn’t have thought of posting up here, because I would have deserved to get flamed.

Driver error? yeah, it probably played a part… Its a fun corner, I drive a fun car, and I was well within the limits of the car and the road. With no reason to assume that it was icy, I guess I’m guilty as charged. Although, I don’t think many people could say that they wouldn’t have been doing the same.

p.s. my convertible is white, hence the name. Ha, since then its only been red cars…badly thought out name I guess.
