Ok didnt want to steal anyones thread and im not sure what to do.
Basically my car was never in my name always in my sisters for insurance purposes. Bought it in 03. We dont talk anymore for whatever reason ive got the title adn everything signed over to me but im not sure about registering it, I got all the paperwork saying its signed over to me as a gift or what not and the forms that say it woudl be sales tax exempt (supposidly).
Problem is you guys are talking about the new law that if you dont pay for the vehicle you still have to pay the taxes on the vehicle. Well i called the DMV and talked to a representative and he said if the vehicle is being signed over as a gift then i dont pay any taxes that theres no newer laws on that.
just looking for opinions and whos right. It would be weird if a DMV agent didnt know what he was talking about.
lol im sorry guys i read that on the website and i got that form done already. i just misrepresented the fact that i had not paid for the vehicle from her that i wasnt sure if i had to pay the sales tax. I read about the whole sales tax thing on here after i had read the dmv site i was not sure if they had updated it or not. So being as the vehicle is a gift from a family member and i have that form filled out im free of sales tax correct???
thank you guys i appreciate it and im sorry if i made A wasted post
