what if neil lomax had played on a good team…
I don’t think this is a fair comparison by numbers. Montana played in a system (West Coast) where passing was way more prevelant. So of course his numbers will surpass Bradshaw’s. The Steelers during Bradshaws era under Chuck Noll were much more run oriented (and successful with the run) than San Francisco relative to their time. Bradshaw was the better athlete in my opinion. Montana picked up the intricacies (sp?) of the game faster than Bradshaw did. I think if Bradshaw was a quicker study, he may have one one more superbowl and had bigger numbers.

True, but Bradshaw also had mental disorders most of his professional career.
I think that any quarterback within a solid system will succeed…just look at Jake the Bearded Snake…he was awful most of his career and now in Denver is the 2nd coming of Elway. I just simply look at attempts/completions/ints…which makes Montana a cut above regardless of the system in which he operates…unless 80% of his west coast throws were screens and short slants. If I was to put together an all time great team, I think I would still take Jonny U over all of them.
Either way Terry Bradshaw is the far better actor…I conclude my argument with Cannonball Run…case closed.
 well put.
my version of the cliff’s:
montana - the scalpel. intelligent passing with grace, good decision making in and out of the pocket. the thinking man’s QB.
bradshaw - the blackjack. blunt-force trauma passing. got it done anyway he had to, whether it was scrambling or brute power-tossing. the working man’s QB.
