Who's sticking with Netflix?

Couldnt find anything related with the search.

I guess Netflix isn’t going to have a spin off company (Qwikster). I personally thought that was a little ridiculous.

But I still decided to cancel my subscription. The 60% rate hike and this spin off were reasons for me to cancel but the main reason was annoyance. People dont like being dicked around, and hiking prices up that high at one time was a bad move in my opinion.
If it’s one thing that they should have learned from Time Warner it’s that people are more tolerant with small rate hikes every six months or so. It’s still annoying but it’s easier to see how far you can push people before they cancel their subscription.

Who is staying with Netflix? Who isnt? What alternatives will you be using?

Night is to day, as the Netflix CEO is to Steve Job. Netflix stock is plummeting. This dude should be sacked ASAP!

I went online to cancel, but ended up finding a cheaper plan that was more suitable for me. I’ll see how it goes for a couple months but may end up canceling.

Really tired of all the whining from netflix people.

Bottom line, their costs are going up an astronomical amount since the content providers are asking for much more money. How much? $180 million in 2010 to a whopping $1.98 billion in 2012 is what one analyst is predicting.

Netflix doesn’t produce anything. They’re just a middleman packaging someone’s product and giving you access to it. Being pissed at netflix for raising prices is like being pissed at the local gas station owner when the price of gas goes up. It’s stupid, because they’re just passing along their increased cost while trying to stay in business.

I think Netflix is pretty much doomed anyway. Content providers are pricing streaming so high it’s not going to be attractive to the consumer. Plus, they’re signing exclusive deals so if you want Showtime streaming you’ll need a Hulu account, HBO an Amazon, CBS from Netflix etc etc. No one is going to pay for streaming accounts from 10 different providers. And Redbox is a real competitor do their DVD by mail service.

I cancelled a while back, I can get everything they offer for free online.

Why not its what $7-8 a month?

I use it multiple times a week.

I enjoy streaming off my apple TV, but the qwikster garbage is just that, garbage.

I will continue to use my friends log-in. Cost effective.

It’s still a shitload cheaper than on-demand and video rental stores. Quit complaining.

My only issue with Netflix was my lack of planning. If someone random comes over and we are gonna watch a movie, I will either go to Redbox and pay the $1.08 or find it online. The only subscription I pay for is Hulu Plus but their lack of mobile streaming and high number of commercials is slowly pissing me off.

The cost isnt the main reason I cancelled. And it isnt cheaper than on demand. Netflix was $20 per month. That’s 5 on demand movies. I won’t watch more than 5 movies in a month. Plus it’s instant.

What about netflix streaming? I use that ALL the time.

It is, but they don’t offer new movies instantly. IMO they’re instant streaming having limited selection. I would much rather go to Redbox, rent the movie for $1 and return it the next day. Before any of you say the selection sucks on Redbox, the Wegmans by my house has 2 redbox machines right next to each other. If one doesn’t have it, the other one does.

I think it’s Warner Bros. that doesnt allow Netflix to ship their DVDs until 30 days after release date.

The redbox business model is awesome. So little overhead, just paying a vending machine guy to go around in load new movies once a week. They’re owned by coinstar so you’re talking about a company that already had all the experience they would need running vending machines and had the existing network of techs to maintain them. Most places will allow them in for free because they drive more foot traffic. If you’re stopping at Wegmans to get a movie chances are you’re going to grab something from the store too.

I only use the streaming and its $8, if there is a movie that i absolutely have to watch a movie when it comes out I go to redbox, burn it, then watch it. Only thing that sucks about redbox is that they dont put a lot of the new releases in them so you have to get there early. Though I have found out that they put new release movies in the day before and they are available to rent when at midnight

I also only use streaming, since I tend to run topgear episodes in my waiting room full time. Worth the 8 bucks to me

 x2

yeah that’s an awesome idea

ditched the dvd-by-mail option, kept the streaming.

Dead on, and pretty much what I came here to say. Not only that, but I suspect that as we see more fragmentation, piracy is going to start going right back up (it’s been decreasing since streaming services have gained popularity). I know I’m not going to pay $8/mo for Netflix, $70/yr for Amazon, and $8/mo for Hulu. It’s absurd to pay that much for something I don’t own. The simple fact is that piracy went down because paying for streaming services was more convenient, and now content providers are making it less so - because, well… they’re idiots.

Not to mention this is only going to get worse when ISPs start introducing bandwidth caps and we have yet another problem to worry about with streaming services.

For right now, I switched to the streaming plan - the girlfriend uses it a lot and I use it a fair amount. I’ll let things play out over the next few months.
