i have file and print sharing, built in firewall turned off
set machine 2 to autodetect internet settings any it’ll work
did that too still nothing it says: “detecting proxy settings” then says “opening web site” then redirects to that stupid msn default search thing and says “cannot open search page”
sounds like the firewall wasn’t turned off of both pc’s?
also, you need to reboot the machines after you make connection config changes…
you DO have them in the same workgroup…right?
yes they are in the same workgroup they both show up when i view workgroup computers, both firewalls are turned off i can take screen captures if u like, i also completely disabled norton internet security, rebooted both computers many times and still all i get is access to the hard drives i get no internet sharing
uh… i guess you could try to create a network bridge from the NIC to the modem… that way they can share.
also you might want to set up the dail up for both IE’s and try them
internet works on the one machine right? emulate the settings on the other PC
does the 2nd pc get an ip address and is it set up for dhcp?
ICS uses dhcp for all computers except the one that is dorectly connected to the web
damn post whores
when i did it before with 98 like a year ago i remember setting it up for dhcp but i can’t find that option in xp tho
dhcp = obtain IP automatically in tcp/ip in props on the NIC
try getting 2 DSMs to talk, maybe they will say " DSMs are poop and don’t mod me " :drama:
i thought you went to computer school btw?
heh, i know a LOT of people that went to college and computer school that still dont know shit :hs:
yeah and i know a lot of people that went to “computer school” to get a business degree - like me…when i went to school for networking that was in 98 and 99 NT4 was the newest we had so yes i’m having a few problems with xp let me break this down for you:
the computers are connected in the same workgroup file sharing is enabled obviously i can transfer stuff from computer to computer. internet sharing is enabled on the dell and the other computer even says it’s connected to the internet (under my connections) It EVEN goes so far as to say it’s sending and recieving data when i view the status of the “internet” connection…but when i open anything to get online it just says “cannot open search page”. all firewalls we could find were disabled (xp’s and norton) still no difference. i’ve tried the auto detect many times but all it does is say “detecting proxy settings” and then says it can’t open the page.
aparently i must have slept through the “what to do when your internet connection shows up but doesn’t let you on the internet” class that day
it didnt’ like the DG set on the dell, i erased it and it works now
