why does my electric fan stay on??

anyone idea why my fan would stay on after ive shut the car off???
is this normal, how long should it be on for?

Yup, its normal. Mine stays on for about 5 minutes after. It only turns on when the engine gets to a certain temp and shuts off when its job is done.

It’s probably because your electric fan thermostat is wired to constant power instead of ACC. You should wire it different since running your fan after the engine is off does nothing but cool the coolant in the rad and waste your battery power.

I havent had a problem with my battery …

My radiator (stock) running my rb20 will overheat in a matter of minutes of shutting it off when I didn’t have the fans running. Thermostats are a good idea anyways IMO

Yes thermostats are a good idea. But how the hell does your car overheat if it’s off? And what good does cooling the rad do? If you shut off then engine when it’s too damn hot, cooling the rad won’t so anything. The laws of thermodynamics say your engine canot make more heat energy once it’s shut off. So where is this energy coming from?

Where is the thermostat for your fan relay? In the rad or the engine?

So True. Thats why i have a relay so the fans can only come on if the ignition is on, there is no sense in draining a battery for nothing.

What about the track, in between runs?

Lets the car idle and turn the thermostat to a cooler setting so it comes on more frequently.

Or just pop the hood after you shut it off.

I’ve done that before, doesn’t always work the greatest. Without the coolant circulating through the rad things can still be too hot for the non-circulating coolant to dissipate properly and quickly enough.

All in all, it’s much better to let the car idle with the fans running if you wanna cool it down. At least after a hard run.

B-Wurm

i dunno i just wired mine to the ignition…on all the time…and shut off when the turbo timer kills the ignition…
