Why would you present this to the government?

Let them figure it out themselves.

Why wouldn’t you present it to the government? Disclosure is how problems get fixed. Keeping things quiet allow them to be exploited.

Peiter ‘Mudge’ Zatko, noted computer security expert and former member of the L0pht hacking group, who testified to Congress in 1998 that he could bring down the internet in 30 minutes using a similar BGP attack,

why am I not surprised that nothing has been done about it

Im sure its going to be hard to find ways to prevent these attacks from being possible. You can find ways around these things, or just find another way.

And the government… Well, they suck.

Because as it was quoted, 12 years ago the same issue was shown to the government. Nothing has been fixed. Why give them a chance to use this against people to monitor internet traffic.
