This software is pretty cool. One of my co-workers showed it to me this morning. He hooked his Wii controller to the laptop and uses the Wii accelerometer to measure his car’s acceration. It will log acceleration in 3 directions, as well as pitch and roll.
It would be a fun thing to hook up and measure an autocross run. You could figure out how many g’s your car pulls turning right and left, braking, and accelerating.
You can also hook the Wiimote up to other applications - like using it as a remote for the pc’s dvd player.
I wrote a configuration interface to use the wii remote during meetings in our lunch room where we have the wii… pretty tricked out!!! lol… semi dorky. on the newer dell laptops i’m having no issues iwth bluetooth and did not need to file swap and register… on an older thinkpad I did have to update the sys files for bluetooth.
We are going to try to figure out soemthing cool to do with this.
What is the wii accelrometer or whatever? if it’s something already written that i don’t have to, that’d be awesome
My co-worker has it hooked up to SolidWorks. He is experimenting with it to pan, zoom, and rotate CAD models with the Wii. Pretty neat. I told him he should use it for presentations, too. He has figured out the buttons but not the dynamic part. It would be cool if you could move the wiimote around and have it work like a mouse.
There is an accelerometer built into the wiimote. When you are bowling or golfing or whatever, it determines how hard you are swinging and what direction. GlovePIE is using the same information to determine how fast your car can accelerate.
I bet people using accelerometers 20 years ago for testing would hav enever thought they’d be used ofr games mych less what you guys are talking about.
