Haha what did Adler do to it

long story short, the chopper was traded without carbs. the stock ones were trashed. I had already bought a replacement set to give mahoney as a gift…so I offered to rebuild them, put on a brand new set of steel dragon stacks, jet them, and sell them to him for $300 after all the work and parts (free labor). He agreed, and a few weeks later had the money and got them. then about a week later he calls me up saying he was dead in a parking lot, dead battery. I give him a few things to check and then don’t hear from him. a week later he calls me and says he wants to pay me to tune the bike up and diagnose the dead battery issue so he can sell the bike because he “doesn’t know hondas and would rather get something else”. I agree to work on it, he brings it to my shop. I look it over and estimate $200 to fix it, maybe more. Come to find out he ran the brand new carbs on a rusty tank with no filters, undoing all of me previous work. He also never tightened the inner two carb mount clamps and I did not realize this until probably 8hrs of troubleshooting later. The regulator/rectifier was bad as well. So, I tell him what the parts cost and tell him he’s either going to have to pay me to re-clean the carbs or he can get the bike and do it himself. He agrees to pay me to fix it. He ends up listing it for sale, and my buddy cam brings melvin by to scope it out. they go outside to talk about the deal in private, and adler leaves. Come to find out, melvin paid him full price for the bike and adler skipped out on paying me for the work…$300. For two months kept saying he was gonna pay me, asking when I’d be at the shop (nearly every free moment I have outside of work) and eventually stops responding whenever I asked when I could expect to get paid. I even offered taking paypal. He’s the only person that’s ever stiffed me. And considering we seem to know an awful lot of the same people, that was a bonehead move.

Any time people trade stuff for other stuff you can guarantee everything that got traded is just going to wind up ruined.

EDIT:

And any time someone says “I don’t know _____ brand”, they really mean: “I don’t know anything about anything.” All this shit is essentially the same. Sure, there are nuances between brands, but not being able to figure out why your battery is going dead is not a brand nuance.

yeah, you hit it all on the head. the dirtbikes were a bit misrepresented too. I ended up rebuilding the forks and rear shocks on both. one rear shock didn’t even have the shraeder valve or any fluid in it, and the bolts holding it in didn’t have any nuts on it. The bike that had an actual assembled motor in it turned out to run really strong, so tires and suspension and a little carb tuning later it’s a fantastic dirtbike.

lol for sure.

Surprised about Adler, isn’t he a shop teacher or works at a machine shop or something?

both.
