Win7, laptop won't turn off.

got the upgrade disc from HP for the upgrade from Vista to 7 (Free) didn’t do a full format (i know i sorta should have) just the upgrade and everything except a few menu options transferred over and all is well. The disc came with a bios upgrade utility, so i estimate the bios should be current as it did DL and update when it went through.

But it won’t turn off… you select Shut down and it’ll do it’s “shutting down” splash screen and never actually shuts down. you either have to force it by holding the power button or the battery dies. is there an option, or setting i have to change to tell something it doesn’t know so it’ll do what it’s supposed to? Or am i going to have to cleanse it and do a full format?

thanks

I would say do full format, just do a Windows Easy Transfer first. If you hit the shutdown from the start menu, open task manager and see if processes actually begin to shutdown.

I agree with ProgRocker, you should at least start to see some processes shut down, or some change in processor usage to let you its doing anything.
