anyone know where to get a CD iso or does anyone have one? I can’t seem to find them on MS’s website. Even though they don’t support it anymore, I figured they’d still have the updates for download.
ummm its 2007 btw
On a related note, does anyone know where I can get some tapes for my Commodore 64? And a driver so my USB printer will work on the Commodore?
I wouldn’t reccomend running Windows 98. It’s been unsupported by MS for some time now and I am sure there are still plenty of exploit/worms/etc out in the wild for it.
is it?
This laptop wont like XP and/or Vista btw (hell, it doesnt even like Ubuntu). I figure as long as I run a good firewall, and firefox with the no script plugin, I should be ok for the most part
What doesnt it like about Ubuntu? Get a light linux distro with an even lighter window manager (like fluxbox or windowmaker)… Maybe even Xubuntu (which comes with XFCE4)
yeah, I tried installing it yesterday and after about 2 hours, it finally got to the partition manager and it hung up around 35% and didn’t budge. So I just said F it and dusted off an old copy of win98SE
Windows2000?
I dont think MS supports win98 anymore. May not find any updates out there.
MS stopped supporting about a year ago.
95/98 updates are non-existant these days. Unless you can get 2k on you are pretty much SOL unless you know the exact number for the update.
What are the specs on this laptop?
figures
it’s a pentium 2 300mhz, 192mb memory, dvd drive, 1 usb 1.0, serial, yada yada yada
pretty dated, but works for what I need it to do
hmmm… can I upgrade to 2K from 98se? I think I may have a 2K disc laying around somewhere
edit: the only thing I’m worried about with going to 2K is that 98 actually plays dvd’s fine… not sure if 2K will be too big of a pig for it
If it’s a fresh install there is no point in doing an upgrade, just wipe it again. I believe you can though but it might cause more headaches than anything down the road.
Get DSL (Damn Small Linux)
Its like 50 megs and debain based for you Ubuntu people

Windows2000?

Uh, XP will run better on any computer vs win2000
Turn off the visual settings and you have a much more efficient and bug free 2000
