OK, bought a ext. CD drive/burner

Now…my problem is…how the FUCK do I get the thing to install when they give me a fuggin CD!!! I bought the cd reader/burner because I dont currently HAVE a cd reader, and it says I need to use the disk to install it. How fuckin stupid…

Any input is appretiated.

email an image of the software to yourself?

Put the software on a usb key?

If its xp, all those things are plug and play.

 apple or PC?

if PC, then it shouldn’t matter long as you’re using windows2K+ (and possibly ME/98)… as for Mac, maybe you can get said drivers online

Man it’s like trying to call to get a phone installed.

PC: it should just be plug-in, and go. Unless you have some ancient SCSI, or parallel port based enclosure.

MAC: Here be dragons, but I’m assuming it would have one as just about every mac since the late 90s has had a CD-ROM drive in place of a floppy.

OK I was in a blind rage…sorry for not putting any specs in there for yous.

Compaq Presario 17XL260
Microsoft Windows 98 2nd Edition

Now what I am trying to accomplish is…Im trying to download windows updates so I can run my PCM writing program on my laptop. I also need to download the PCM writing program on the said laptop as well and that is on the internet and CD.
Im thinkin maybe I could just try to plug my laptop into my router and use the internet? But, I dont have the connection for my network card (Net Gear FA410TX Network Card for Notebook PC)

Im dumb on this so thanks for ur help.

If I had this I could connect to my cable model broadband router…correct?

oh god win98 its not plug n play like xp is, you will need drivers of some sort.

check the company website, but you may be SOL since 98 is legacy and not really supported any more.

Eeep.

Step 1. Get USB thumb drive.
Step 2. Use a computer on the internet to find your NIC driver or CD driver (whichever comes first)
Step 3. Use thumb drive to install NIC driver/CD ROM driver
Step 4. Install you software
Step 5. ???
Step 6. Profit

Also Windows 98 might need drivers, but it very well shouldn’t be end of the world, because 98 was around when the internet was around so the drivers should be there.

damn. win98se?

pheew…hello 99-00…

lol, yeah, I know but, I dont think the itty bitty processor will handle anything better. Besides…the SOLE purpose of this laptop is for my car. We have two done up home computers all up to date and confusing stuff…lol

Thanks for the useful input from some of u guys.

you may want to consider “obtaining” (read:stealing) a copy of Fundamentals. Its basically stripped down xp made specifically for legacy hardware, there are some things that dont work perfectly, but its very light, and for the most part does everything XP does.

what are the laptops specs? can you get your tuning/logging software for linux?

you may be able to run 2K
