That the first winter for this M3?
i’m driving a 91 r32 gtst.
225/45/r17 stretched winters, and a mismatched set of coils.
And subwoofers. so many subwoofers.
like 30
lol yeah im pretty sure it is…
Lookin good, walker!
97 acura el with snows
Putting the old bald tires to good use…ready for some new rubber Monday.
I just finished installing STUDDED HAKKAS on the ALLROAD. You can not beat that.
(On stylin BBS wheels):pimp:
Installed my hakkas today on my spare set of 18" wheels. I actually really like how my car looks in winter mode. Went all over today and as suspected had no issues at all. However the car is still slammed right now haha like I didn’t raise it at all. I will probably just install the stock suspension in the next week or so.
Yeah, I was slammed all last year but I really want to screw it up this year. I high centered it once last year, there is virtually no preload on these springs so once it is lifted at all there is no down force on the tires… bad.
haha nice! So you keep your coils on during the winter? I am debating just raising the ride height some but am afraid that the salt and such might ruin them. Any input?
The salt definately takes its toll on them. The first year I had them the screws rusted and created a big project just for adjustment. That was a while ago so I am pretty sure it will be a bitch again. If you have the 2 piece that screw together it probably won’t be an issue but, with mine the screw has to be loosened to screw them up or down. The other thing is to make sure there is no sand in the threads when you turn them (obviously).
Coat the shits with oil!
ha nice paint job on the rimz.
Coat the fuck out of them with some kind of grease, like wheel bearing grease/axle grease and they will be fine in the spring time. Yeah, you will have to wipe it off and that sucks but they won’t fuse together from corrosion. I had a set of coilovers on a car that I never drove in the winter and just the dirt and little stones that would get on the threads by the adjuster rings was a huge pain in the ass-I used a compressor to blow the crap off the threads before attempting to adjust them.
^^^ yep
especially if they are aluminum bodied… be very careful and clean thoroughly, otherwise you will destroy the threads in seconds
wire brush, WD-40, vice, chisel, BFH… you can unseize even the most fuckied coilovers.
i had to do this with several sets back in the day. Let me tell you, aluminum collars get fuuuucked after this process obviously.
You may even put some heat on it… but not tooo much
I think I will just put the stock suspension back in. I don’t know im feeling pretty lazy.
youll be glad you did, it really is a pita to unseize collars after winter.
batman couldnt even do that shit
HAHAHA yeah I just might not have time for a few weeks. I am thinking I will do the swap and just see how they look then give them a complete cleaning and lube before I store them for a few months. They are just a bitch to do on M5’s you have to take apart a ton of the interior to get to the rears. PITA.
