Winter Wheels, please help!

Hey guys, I have a question regarding winter wheels.

I have a new 07 Mazda3 Hatch Touring. I called my local tire place (not a national chain) to see how much a wheel and tire package would be for the winter and they quoted me the following:

17" alloys w/ Bridgestone perf. winter tires and TPMS sensors - $1,069

16" alloys w/ non-studded Bridgestone winter tires and TPMS sensors - $1,012

That seems extrememly high to me. I have never bought winter wheels/tires before or dealt with TPMS sensors but I was thinking more in the ballpark of like $500.

Does that sound like a reasonable quote to you guys or does $500 sound more reasonable. If that is a high quote, where should I look for winter rims/tires?

Its july, but those are really high.

I had only asked them to look into it because we had our Element in for an oil change and I figured since I was there I would ask. But I figured I would ask

well i would try tire rack and discount tires

also joel on here works at NTB so he might be able to see if there cheaper there since he works there

I spent $1,000 roughly on Hanook winter performance 17" tires and Konig 17" wheels brand new from discountiredirect.com That included mount/balance and shipping

Not too sure what size wheels are on the car to start out with, but I would not put on a larger size wheel for the winter. Larger tires are going to cost more, especially for winter tires.

For a decent set of winter tires, you are going to pay a good amount. Depending on tire/size/etc, you’re looking at spending probably $400-550 for tires alone. I got my winter tires from Discount Tire Direct and they were $120 per tire. This was the first time I had ever used true snow tires and it made one hell of a difference with my car so it was worth every penny.

I happened to pick up an extra set of OEM wheels for cheap so I could use them just for the winter wheels.

If you’re looking for new wheels/tires, are you planning on getting a set of winter wheels as well? Perhaps you could buy a nice set of summer wheels and tires, then use the stock wheels for the winter. If you don’t want to go this route, you can check on Mazda forum’s for people selling their stock wheels. Most of the time you can pick up a set really cheap that are in good condition.

I actually want to get some winter rims to keep the stock ones nice. I have one of the higher trim levels and the wheels are 17"s and are pretty nice and I want to keep them that way. I really don’t care what size i get for the winter wheels as long as they are cheap. Maybe I can find some on ebay or something.

honestly that sounds about correct with 4 tires, wheels you should be looking at about 700-800 and around another 200-400 for tpms sensors that is what is throwing you off

o and im joel that works for ntb

my winter tire and wheel set up ran me 550 with everything for my si and i got steel wheels off of an accord

Thanks for all the input guys. I actually decided to check the buy-sell forum on mazda3forums.com. I think I can get a good deal there on some lower trim 16" rims/tires.

I spent $400-550 for Hanook 16" winter tires. This last winter was the first time I had ever used true snow tires and it made one hell of a difference with my car so it was worth every penny. yep 17"s were too much so I got a set of 16" for winter. Its so nice just being able swap rims when the spring weather rolls in rather than going to a shop and having them mount bal… etc.
