I have a remote car starter … I dont’ see the point
I can see a benefit of putting the wipers up for 2 reasons.
The first, regarding freezing rain, has been covered
The second: if you’re expecting a significant amount of snowfall, putting the wipers up affords you a lot more room to clear the cowl area off. A lot of newer cars have the wipers tucked pretty deep in there, and there’s nothing more annoying than a huge build up of snow in that cowl area that repeatedly lift the wipers off the windshield and fuck up your wipe.
If I engage my wipers when the car is off, they move to a vertical position and stop. This seems to work well to prevent ice build up.
Could a wiper getting blown down by the wind like that crack the windshield?
rubber doesn’t usually crack glass so I doubt it.
plus they usually detent up a little. I’ve never seen them get blown over. BUT knocking a wiper arm down while changing the blade could crack the windshield. I’ve had some close calls with that one…
I thought people do it because when you drive for awhile the ice/snow melts then when you park the car overnight (or for along period of time) the melted ice/snow will freeze to the wiper blades. I sometimes do it just because I hate banging off ice that is stuck to the wiper blades. It has nothing to do with too much snow on them…
Also, I don’t get why it matters. If you dont understand/anti-wiper lifter, then don’t do it. Simple shit
lol,if a blade gets broken I replace it for $2.They are ~$5 for a pair at ollies.
I wish I were cool and could call people retards for doing this but I do it, and no I am not going to explain why.
Closest poll in months, lol.
service position, b/c you can’t lift the arms past the hood in the parked position. Sry… Vw training peeking through…
noone in VA knows how to deal withs now
also, most people in VA suck, with the exception of a few in richmond
Takes a total of 5 seconds, not much time wasted IMHO.
Helps sometimes, definitely better for cleaning that lower area out, not necessary, not unnecessary.
so… shall we vote on this one?
Ontario plate, some person who parks near my work.
edit: wipers were up also…
That just seems like too much work
i put them up if i know we will be getting alot of snow or freezing rain
i dont use cheap wiper blades and like them to work when I need them (especially after a bad snow storm)
Yeah, I realize that. But it works well because you can’t lift em up to get snow/ice out any other way.
I would probably do it once in a while if I could, but the arms on my cav do not allow it. They only go up ~75degrees before that stop.
It is definatly catchy… In the beginning of the season only one or two poeple did it at work.
Now the parking lot is full of cars that do it. I do not really care enough about my wipers to take special precautions in winter. I usually just hit the to top of it with my brush to break them out of the ice.
My wipers may work the best, but at least I brush off all my windows AND lights.
ha. shitty gm. my old boss drove a bonneville or some shit and since the wipers wont stand up he put styrofoam cups under the arms to hold them off the windshield. dumb ass
