Wireless Networking help

I have an 802.11b router on my second floor, it’s in the center of the house but its strength and speed is shitty in the basement and just ok on the first floor. I went ahead and bought 2 netgear 802.11g routers, I want to put one on the second floor and one in the basement… will this work:

Thanks guys

save yourself some hassel. it can work, but why would you go through the hassel if you can just get a better router. for wireless signal. this is the router to use.

i promise you won’t be disappointed. put it on the second floor and enjoy. we use these at work for new fios installs and the wireless signal is far more superior than the dlink routers we used to install. whitey has one of these, i’m not sure if he uses it or if he got another one, but he can vouche for the wireless signal capabilities

why not just buy one router that can broadcast the signal all over the house and save yourself the hassel. i install these routers everyday and the wireless signal is basically 2nd to none as far as home signals are concerned. i’ve installed these in basements in a corner and connect to it 2 floors up on the opposite side of the house and still pull a 5.2meg download speed. whitey has one of these routers, i’m sure he can vouche for the wireless signal strength.

I second what grnteg said. We use the actiontecs all the time.

The problem is the b router. The strength is poor and the network is limited to 11 Mbps.

Simply replace the b router with one of the new g routers and then take the other one back to the store. Throw the b router in the trash or save as a backup.

Make sure all of your wireless receivers can do g (54 Mbps), if not replace them too.

A note on super g modes…boosting the signal to do super g (108 Mbps) reduces it’s strength and therefore the distance.

Good Luck.

Make sure you go in and configue the IP addresses. If they are both using the default address you will have an IP conflict.

Set one for channel 1,6 or 11 and the other on a different channel so you do not have any overlap.

Don’t worry about b, g, or super g unless you are doing a lot of PC to PC file transfer. Your internet connection will probably be less than 10Mb and b routers operate at 11Mb.

Set your Belkin at 192.168.1.1 and make it your internal gateway.
Set your 1st Netgear to 192.168.1.2
Set your 2nd Netgear to 192.168.1.3

Use one of your routers to give out DHCP addresses (unless you have a server) and start your address pool at 192.168.1.100.

fuck I have to fix all your shit.

then come over and fix it mr. I.T.
