would my car pass inspection

my car had been in a front end accident before i bought it. the previous owner decided to go to this cheap chinese autobody to get it fixed.

i bought the car and found that part of the front rad support of the sub frame was cut and Oxy-Acetylene Welded back on. as it currently is, the piece is located on the right front corner, and looks to be just supporting the bumper. it does not support any of the steering or engine components

the piece is roughly 20 cm long and is welded right before the right strut.

i will take pictures of it tomorrow to show how it looks.

i am wondering if this would fail a safety inspection or not. if i were to get the piece mig -welded back on, would it be alright or no?

some people say since its the sub frame and only supports the rad that it should be safe.
others say that any welding will fail an inspection if its on the frame

It is true if you shouldn’t weld on the frame and it will fail u in any case… .not too sure about subframe tho. . .

i drew a quick picture but the red part is the frame itself, and the yellow part is the piece that was welded on

How visable is the welds…

pretty visible the way it is now. i was thinking of possibly grinding the welds down and slapping a coat of undercoating on it to hide it

… I’d go with asking an inspection company on whats allowed and what isnt allowed on the topics of welds… (and if you know who’s doing your inspection, i’d ask them first…)

I dont know if your car is safe though, i mean does the Rad Support ONLY hold up the Rad? Cuz if there is any linking from your motor/mounts to the rad support i’d get her done right then insured (Personal Prefrence)…

But find out the stand point and then go from there…

from what i see it only seems to be holding up the front bumper and just part of the rad. can anyone check their car to see if it holds up anything more than the radiator?

i talked to the local inspection place called best choice auto and they said that as long as the piece was mig-welded on professionally, it would not be a problem. i guess thats what im gonna do
