Re IC: Welding *Edited With Pics! On Page 1

ok, i’ve been getting quite a few people asking me to do this, so here it is again but written better.
How many people need their frames welded? please make a list of where you are located, the severity of the situation. and if your actually going to have the welding done! for the frame i can weld in an entire new front frame section on both sides fo 400$ that includes the new frame sections, if you buy the new frame sections 250 for both sides. think my prices are high? go get them done by a mesely shop where the people fix engines, not weld! remember i’m a professional welder, i know what i’m doing better than any shop will. and i can also stitch weld you car for 600 whole front 400 whole back, seam welding is more! if you wanna chinse out on your car and just have it boxed. i’ll do it, but i advise against it, 150 for both sides. any other welding i will need pics! cuz every inch of wire and ccm of gas costs money. so if you want it done right talk to me if not have fun repairing everything next season!

see how much work is involved in stitch welding? this is why it costs a lot, and “seam” welding would be literally connecting the dots, which is more, seam and stitch welding are to increase the rigidity of the car, and a lot of professional drifters do this, i have an article on my computer somewhere about it, i’ll post it when i find it

So you’re saying you’re a licenced, registered, certified (whatever the hell it is) welder? If yes, then this is a steal, and I’m first on the list.

  1. Antonio (Solarian)

I might be in for seam welding depending on price, but frame repair I’m in for immediately.

Edit: I have a question actually. When you’re welding my front frame, will you cut off the current rusted part? b/c I think that if you don’t, and just weld metal over it, it can continue to rust and ruin the rest of it.

yes your right thats why i advise against boxing a frame, if you weld metal right oever rust the rust will eat right though, and i WAS a lisenced welder but i’m not anymore, let me explain why.
In order for you to become licensed there are a few ways to do it.

  1. Go to school
  2. challenge the CWB
  3. work does it

now the way i did it and why i’m not licensed anymore.
Because i didn’t want to spend 8000$ on a welding school to teach me what i already know and do, i decided to challenge the CWB test (Canadian Welders Bureau). when you do this they ask you to weld 2 1/2 plates of steel, then they bend the plate of steel into a horseshoe shape, if it doesn’t break they send it out to get it x-rayed to examine the internals of the weld, that alone takes apporx. 3 weeks before yo uget your results. now the firs time you do this, it 150$, then you have to redo the test every month for 80$. now if you work at a company that requires a licensed welder you automatically get re-licensed, but i didn’t work at a pplace that did, and now i’m not licensed. i can pass the test with flyong colours but its not really worth it to me.

P.S if enough business is generated, i’ll be setting up a TIG welder for aluminium, stainless steel, and titamium

check your PM’s

I am lincensed welder (for now) as well and the process described is dead on correct. If you do not work constanly as a welder your license will expire.

mine expires in November and I am not paying to retest if i do not plan to work in the industry. But i still have the skills

when you setup for tig I will be intrested.

Hybrid

//\ long you been welding?

are you asking for SEAm welding or STITCH weling? 2 different thing

How much for rear frame, right under the muffler?

you know i’ve never actually heard of this happening before, i’ve always seen the front rust never the back, send me about 3-5 pics if you can and i’ll give you an estimate

For those who don’t know atutt, I’ve met Adam up here in Barrie, he’s a good guy. I might need some welding done too… I’ll send you a pm later on.

Sent an email.

Oh yeah?

Things like that happen when you buy a $100 rustbucket.

^ LoL that’s quite the vehicle!

I wasn’t asking about seam or stitch welding, just pointing out that I may be interested in that further down the road, if I have the cash. For now, I know I’m in 100% for the front frame fixy $400 thing.

That makes me feel so much better about my car.

what happened to everyone who asked me to do welding for them? i was getting like 1-5 pm’s a day!? :?

you do house calls? hehhe

I’m still interested. Just waiting to get paid first, unless you can do it for free?
Also, I was wondering if you’ve ever made brackets for racing seats before. The seat I have in my car atm, is waaaaaay too high since it’s top mounted, so I was wondering if you could make me some sidemount brackets so that I’m not smacking the roof of my car all the time.

Im still waiting for a quote on the area i emailed pics of.

hey sorry i havent replied, my b-day was this past 24 weekend, and today was recovery day, lol, anyways, in your pics it really looks like a lot of surface rust, but i may be wrong, if you can get me bigger pics that would probably help.
and i would do it for free for someone if i had enough interest to do this in the first place, but since no one seems to want they’re frames to be done right i dont have any interest anymore, then again if i had the money i wouldn’t have bought a 240 in the first place, for these reasons, lol
