Well my wifes uncle has a 1988 Monte Carlo SS. He is the original owner, everything is original and it only has 13k miles. Needs headliner from sitting so much and new tires from sitting in the heated garage. Its white with the burgandy colored interior. He wants $9500 for it. I think thats a hell of a price for something that it as rare asthis (Last year of the SS of that body style with 13k miles on it). Not a American Muscle guy, mostly doing import stuff but might just pick it up and store it.
Nope.

^ready to rock and roll
Was it driving regularly or has it sat for years?? Good chance of the seals going bad from sitting for so long and would need to be completely gone through.
There is 2 things killing the 80’s monte SS’s and it’s pretty clear to see.
1 305
2 Grand national
If it weren’t for those two things they would be worth wayyyyyyy more then they are. I bet he can get $9K out of it on ebay though.
i always loved the quarter glass on these. (and obv GN’s as well). My parents had one when i was young, so i have a soft spot for these
They have 305’s? The body style is alright but the 305 would ruin it for me.
I think the price is to high.If you really wanted one they can be had in nice condition for half that price.Maybe if it was a aerocoupe it might be worth that kind of money.I would by a gn before one of those though, they hold there value better.I sold a monte ss a few years ago that was in nice condition for 3,000.
heres a pic
for a like 3k more i could get a newer one with 1/8 the amount of miles on it. That seems to be priced high IMHO.
Bill, it is driven a couple of times each summer. Nothing leaks.
It does have the 305 with a hotter cam that puts out 16 more hp then the regular 305.
You sold that car for $3K? Hell I’d probably have bought it even if it didn’t run for that price. I think Nick’s is worth 5K and your Uncles is worth what he’s asking as well. Just like Clean( mileage isn’t THAT important if the car is clean) Iroc-s and GTA’s. Look what they’re starting to bring now. It adds value of course but condition is most important. I turned down an 87 GN with 2X,XXX miles a couple years ago for around $12k while other 20K mile ones were selling for $15K+ on ebay. Car was just poorly taken care of. Dings, scratches, dirty, wheels had scale, etc. I’ve seen 100K mile ones cleaner and sell for a similar price.
No, i wouldnt. I think they are ugly and slow esp with the 305. But, thats just me. Theres a lot of other cars id rather have for 10k.
Is it worth it? sure, to the right person it could be.
The value is only going up on them. Look at the idiots who pay 2x blue book on hondas.
There is a market for everything and an ass for every seat. Local no, ebay, yes he can get somewhere in the 8k range.
Uggh. I have a soft spot for them and I was 6 in 1988. Yes, someone will pay $9500 for a mint practically brand-new '88 Monte SS. Too bad it’s not an aero-coupe…
Its a solid investment if you can store it cheaply and safely for at least a decade.Does he have all the original documentation?
define solid investment? what do you think this will fetch in 10 years?
lol A car is not an investment. EVER.
Lol, a very solid drop in value is what a car gets. Don’t ever buy a car for investment reasons.
If i was into it, maybe. But i wouldn’t pay 9k for that.
I wouldnt be surprised if people bought some of the last muscle cars as investments. and damn good ones they would have been
10 grand for a Monte Carlo? Does it have an LS* in it?
