sorry for the noob question guys.
my buddy bought a used car a few months back and didn’t know 'til now that it’s supposed to take premium. no detrimental effects yet, and he will obviously go with premium from now on.
should he drive until he nearly completes his current tank or should he keep filling it frequently with premium? does it really matter?
well did he beat on the car when it had the wrong octane in it? if so the future of the motor isnt looking good.
run the car as low as you can get it then run premium.
Cars have knock sensors so I’m sure its fine , but run it till empty and then refill with 93 , also depending on the car might have to disconnect the battery or the car will just add timing . The reason i say with the batt disconnect is because of some of the bs the 2010 Camaros with the l99 had . They had to actually remove a fuse to get it to reset .
It will be fine, most cars are smart enough to protect themselves and adjust timing accordingly.
If I had a dollar for every time I’ve seen Keeler employees fill up E92 M3’s, 335i’s, M5’s, AMG Mercedes, Turbo Mini’s with 87 octane, I’d be finishing Crx’s…
nah, i don’t think he did.
thanks for the input guys. it’s always good when everyone’s saying the same thing
Whats the car anyway?
actually he bought it here on the forums, 98 maxima.
thats not a performance car.
he can run 87, all day, everyday and wont have a problem.
yea apparently he looked into it and found plenty of owners that have used only 87 without any issues.
Just about any modern car can run a lower octane then “recommended” however don’t expect optimal MPG or expected performance out of it as the computer will adjust the map accordingly.
you.don’t.know.what.your.talking.about.
hahahaha
go.fuck.yourself.
I recomend a full overhaul of the engine. Terminal damage could be awaiting due to the lack of octane being ran in the previous tanks of gas. New bearings, crank, rods, pistons and rings, headgasket, valves and valveseals are a MUST
i say use the remaining 87 octane to torch the car. problem solved.
… Shift just happened
:facepalm
LOL.
This thread is terrible. I wouldn’t be as worried if someone of you weren’t over like 12.
as a tech by trade . dont worry about it if anything ya cleaned the motor out of carbon and may run better when ya put 93 in it . i wouldnt though it really dont need it
Plaf’s old car?
That VG definitely doesn’t need 93…
