WS6, Turbo Cobra, G8 GT, Acura CL-Type S, and M3 playing around.

My friend called me tonight and said he was looking to get his car out and mess around a bit. He has a 2003 Cobra that he’s been working on for about a year and it’s finally at a point where he can drive it a bit. He was hoping to race my Z28, but it’s still down, so he came out just to get some kind of shakedown run with the new setup.

The car has an 82mm turbo making 13 psi, and a TH400 transmission. He said he’s guessing it makes around 500 rwhp, based off previous dyno runs, but he hasn’t made any pulls with the current setup, so it is just a guess.

Here’s his car:

My buddy agreed to run him with his 2001 Trans Am WS6, since he had the fastest car tonight, other than the Cobra, and he’s always up for a run against anything.

The WS6 is a 6-speed, with a lid, and an SLP factory option catback. It’s run a few 12.7’s @ 108 mph on Nittos. Pretty one sided on paper, but it was just for fun.

The WS6:

They ran from a dig with the camera man in the Cobra and no passenger in the WS6. As you can see, the Cobra has traction problems so don’t judge him too harshly

After that race my brother set up a race for me with a 2003 Acura CL-Type S. The Acura was a 6-speed with an Eaton blower making 4 psi, and bolt-ons. The guy was really cool and was down for a friendly race.

My car is a stock 2009 G8 GT (numbers in my sig):

We raced from 40 mph and I let out at 120 mph. The camera man was in my car and there wasn’t a passenger in the Acura.

It was a great race and we asked if he wanted to line up against the WS6, which he agreed to. The guy with the Cobra (good friend of his) said he was going to get smashed, but the guy with the Acura said it was just for fun so he didn’t care.

They raced from 40 mph with the camera man in the WS6 and no passenger in the Acura.

On the way out to run the Acura, my friend with the WS6 got a great race in with a 2008ish BMW M3. He said the guy was really cool, but they never pulled off the highway, so we’re not sure what was done to it. We’re assuming it was stock. PSM got a good video of it, but there’s about 40 seconds before the race starts.

Overall we had a great night with alot of fun races! All friendly runs, no BS, no drama. We’re going to line up the Cobra and my Z28 as soon as we get the chance. :thumbup

mannnn u guys seem like u have WAY more fun then us! def gg to conn. some weekneds this year! cobra was rippn!

Yeah, there’s usually something around to race in this area. If not then a few phone calls will usually roust some fun.

richie, I think we should schedual a mullet cruise out too there this year.

also waiting for Lumber jack jeff to come in and see the single, auto swapped cobra…

Is the cobra still a IRS car or did he swap to a solid?

that cobra is ok. he should have just bought a v6 or a gt if he was just gonna strip out the ac and power steering…and 6 speed…and irs lol. thats my problem. i wish i just bought a v6 stripped it, and thrown a dohc mod motor in that bitch. but, auto turbo cobra are tops man. mine will have an auto next year. what gears and tire dia does he run with?? it must get pretty old driving that thing on the highway for more than an hour or so. no overdrive, unless he has a gear vendors on that turbo 400. def a nice group of cars man!

He swapped in a solid rear axle.

Thanks!

I’m not sure what he’s running for rear gears (I’ll find out), but for tires he currently has a really used up pair of Mickey Thompson drag radials. He’s going to be replacing them shortly and I’m trying to talk him into a set of Hoosier drag radials, as I’ve heard and seen some really impressive things with them on the street.

I agree that it must suck to drive without any overdrive (no gear vendors). I understand why people swap those transmissions in, but I’m not a big fan of it for that reason. He’s having fun with it though.

slow ass g8 lol JK!

put a little money in the damn thing…

Haha, soon! I just gotta get the Z28 back out and cruising and then get a little money saved up. I’m thinking that early summer I should be able to start. I’m sure a friendly race with a slightly modded G8 would give me some incentive…:ninja

No problem… The winter sucked for work but the last couple weeks we have been booked pretty good, Hopefully I can finally buy the shit I wanted to buy for it and finally sell my extra set of wheels once I get the tires off…

Nice to see some runs already this year. Like the pics and vids

Berlin Turnpike has been a premier NE spot for years…

Thanks, I’m hoping this is a sign of even better things to come!

This is true, although it’s getting tougher to find good spots to run.

I had a set of Mickey T dr’s before…needless to say i will NEVER buy another set for a street car. i hated them. good for the track but i just rock nitto 555r Dr’s on the street. they last alot longer considering i drive my car a LOT.

My friend says the same thing. He hates the MT drag radials and loves the Nittos. My brother and I are the opposite. Both of our cars were useless in 1st gear (his even in second since he had steeper gearing than me) on the Nittos, but we both hooked awesome on the MT drag radials.

The Nittos do last a long time though.
