WTB: propane heater where can i get one locally?

i need one to heat about 650 sqft, and i want propane.
home depot on transit didn’t have any. i was hoping maybe someone here saw one somewhere recently.

may i ask why you want propane?

also, i went looking for one in the winter a few years ago and they said i was SOL so i waited until fall and bought one.

i know mr. seconds or whatever its called now on walden usually has them. not sure on quality though.

I’m supposed to be running NG out to the garage… but it didn’t get done before the ground froze.

So, I picked up propane fired radiant. $60 @ harbor friehgt. mounts right to the top of a 20# tank. Burns 0.5#s an hour = 15k BTU.

Last year I had a bigass torpedo heater… it was meh. For half the price I would’ve gone convection, alot less noise, and alot more area heated.

im in the market for a 45k btu hanging unit right now for the garage. sick of having to feed a fire and tend to it all day.

Nikuk, did you use the propane torpedo in a a garage? ive heard stories of CM poisoning doing that. did you have any issues?

how about moisture issues?

You missed out, a couple weeks ago Lowes had 35,000btu heaters (the torpedo style) for $50. I picked one up, it’s almost too much heat for my 24x20 garage

Come summer / fall I’m going to install a 1/2" NG line & 45k btu Modine Hot Dawg heater… should be <$1k w/exterior exhaust & t-stat. Will be nice to keep the garage 50* in the all winter.

I had a ~120k btu kerosene (not propane, sorry) torpedo in a cinderblock 2.5 car which leaked live a sieve. We kept the 2car door up ~1’ when running it, and had it positioned w/intake up against the open area. I would run it for a while, then shut off because the soot fumes would be a bit much after ~30 minutes. Moisture wasn’t too bad, because of the on / off use.

The heat output was  , but it was super directional, and noisy as shit.

I have a used convection heater that once i verify it still ignites you can have for $20, it is aluminum and works on medium with a 20# tank, or hi (way too much heat) with a 50# or larger tank. I paid $120 for it new.

thats exactly what im looking for right now…the hawt dog. I already have the line run, and an existing gas heater, but its old, and ive never fired it up, so im a little skeptical of trying it.

thanks for that info!!

because i keep 2 tanks at the house all the time, and noco is half a block away. its just convenient.
i will run NG out there at some point, but not until i do the electric and water… and i have some other projects that need to be done before that.

if i can get it tonight or first thing in the morning i will take it. do you have the line to hook it up to a “full sized” tank. if not, no biggie. i am going to harbor freight for some other shit so i can check there too.

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=90016 This is what I have for now. Grabbed it a couple of days ago, its cheap and it does the job in a 1.5 car that is semi insulated.

My wife called a bunch of place for me, and all would have to order it from Modine. That being said, I’m just gonna order it through her work later this year.

I def suggest spending the extra couple of hundred on the external exhaust… that way you don’t have to worry about fumes or moisture… so the thing can run constanlty or on a t-stat and keep all the equipment (electronics & fluids et al) at a safe temp.

I have one that was brand new in the box, blue flame hanging unit. I opened it and couldnt get it to work, the guy who bought it said the propane wouldnt come through the line or something. It can probably be exchanged somewhere if you want it you can have it for $50.

Mr heater, 30,00 btu blue flame ventless heater.

^^i definately want external exhaust. and it has to be sealed chamber as i work with harsh chemicals and dont need any explosions

that was in fact a loud ass heater. but we were able to pull many a motor…

Probably gonna be hard to find them locally this time of year, I imagine most places are trying to get rid of stock now.

The propane torpedo style do work pretty good. Had a small one when I was working in my parents garage…about 16 by 30 and it heated the whole thing up to 65 or so in 30 minutes. I think I spent $75 on it at home depot.

Just bought a house with a much bigger garage (barn actually)…gonna be a project insulating and heating it…

thanks for the help guys. i might just cowboy up and deal with the temp. it wasn’t so bad out there tonight.

Those blue flame ones work great, I have used mine for a couple of years.

I was just Posting mine for sale when i read this. i have pics…
