i got so excited when i read the thread title, convection? ahh might as well fuck my ass, but who knows id just like a blower one

ive got one of these, it heats a 2 car garage pretty quickly.

seriously?

yeah, its great for a budget heater, but it does use a pretty large flame, so working with open gasoline lines and other flammables you need to be careful about.

i just bought the 200,000 btu they had for $89.00 its ok heater for now. looks the same as the one pictured.

why didnt you go for the larger one for $10 more???

i bought mine for sale at the harlem/walden location.

All the portable heaters they had for the season with the exception of the very large ones are up to 50% off in the entire market.

:word:

And I don’t even put it above 1/2 power. Cranks some serious heat out.

I got mine last year and that was the only option. I didn’t see the bigger ones at North Buffalo yesterday either.

should i get this or for 100$ more opt out for the one that has a blower? now that shit makes a room warm i borrowed my buddies when i took out my engine last week, i was in shorts

Honestly this one pumps out some good heat. Propane lasts forever. It doesn’t have ablower, but when are you in the same place in a garage? I actually take off my jacket when it warms up the garage. I think it was well worth the $

def checkin it out 2mrrw see what some of the employees hafta say about it, maybe ill find one that knows what theyre talking about

you dont need one with a blower, just set up a fan behind it so the fan blows across the top, swirling air across the incredably hot surface of the unit … better then any integrated fan unit youll find

ask 01AudiS4 how hot his garage got with that setup

I have both. The 200K convection and the 200K torpedo. The convection puts out a huge ball of local heat and will do a large area around the heater. The torpedo will put the heat in one direction.

If you have say a 2 car garage I’d say go convection. It’ll warm it nicely. If you have a very large area the torpedo will have enough room to work. You need maybe 20-25 ft in front of it clear.

My shop is big so I can use both. But you have to careful of 2 things. First is CO and of course number 2 is anything flammable. Don’t even think of having any fumes in the air.

The type of fuel may be a concern too. The torpedo will use kerosene)mine also will use diesel), and it does smell some. The propane is completely odorless. If the torpedo runs out you’ll get a flame out which will blast out a huge smoke cloud which will stink up your garage for a long time.

I use a torpedo heater in a larger 2 bay shop with a ~14’ ceiling and it heats up quick. I usually only have it on for a few minutes at a time because it’s so loud, but it definitely gets the job done. You’re right though, it wouldn’t be a good idea in a confined space.

Forgot to mention, the Propane gives off no odor and is not nearly as loud as a kerosine torpedo.

Yeah, the big torpedos are loud. I run mine while I’m out clearing the lot and I can hear it while I’m outside.

A 200k will heat up pretty much anything quickly. Figure your house furnace is in the area of 80k or so depending on how big your house is. So 200k for a garage will do it up. I run the 2-200’s at the shop and it keeps it above freezing. When it’s in the 20’s outside will get it up around 40 or so inside.

Wonder how decent this would work in a 4 car garage?

buy 2…

convection > torpedo by a longshot.

Torpedoes are nice if you’re working in one narrow area. They are also sooty, and noisy.

Convection will heat up an area of ~15’+ in diameter (a 2.5 car garage), will not smell, and is relatively quiet.

My only problem with any of these is that they produce moisture which hangs in the garage and on the surfaces (tools, body parts, blah blah blah) because the combustion exhaust is not vented outside.

Modine hawt dog (w/vent) FTW. But thats not portable.
