Anyone got a sawzall I could borrow? I’ll buy my own blades for it.
Rotors on the Expedition are stuck worse than any I’ve ever seen. Been pounding on them with a 5lb sledge for 45 minutes, while I had my puller putting so much pressure on them they were bending and they haven’t budged.
Kroil + heat have been tried as well. Looks like I’m going to have to cut them off.
Expedition rotors are pretty beastly. I’ve chipped some small parts of it off, and dented the shit out of it, but it ain’t budging. I just picked up a new can of pb-blaster and sprayed this shit out of it. I’m going to spray them good one more time before bed, then go at it again tomorrow. Lining up a sawzall in case this doesn’t work though.

Ring ring…
Edit: left voicemail.
Edit2:  to BRD5oh. Picking up his sawzall later tonight. So if they don’t come off with brute strength tomorrow morning they will be coming off in pieces one way or another.
Everywhere. Started hitting them close to the hub, working in a star pattern. Then tried hitting them from the backside, turning the rotor as I went.
And I know a lot of people are scared and don’t hit them hard enough. I’m pounding the hell out of them, so much so that I put the front end on jack stands because I was afraid I might knock it off the jack.
And don’t forget, while I’m doing this there’s a puller attached to the rotor, torqued so hard it’s actually bending the rotor. Like I said, I’ve never seen one so solidly rusted on there. There is a pile of rust chunks bigger than my fist from the rust that has fallen out of the rotor so far. Lots of similar stories over on the Ford Trucks forum. I guess the tolerance is REAL tight, and after several years of salt they basically become one with the hub.
I’ve had some rotors that were a real bitch but usually once you give up on saving them and break out the puller + big sledge they give up quickly.
i did brakes on BIG B’s expedition a month or so ago and it was the same way. I just beat the shit out of the rotors till they broke into a million pieces then popped off the part of the rotor thats attached to the hub with a screwdriver
And don’t forget, while I’m doing this there’s a puller attached to the rotor, torqued so hard it’s actually bending the rotor…

Here is part of your problem. Take that lousy puller off there. The puller is binding the rotor and actually tightening its grip. You can hammer all day and it wont move.
The key to removing parts with a very tight fit is to shimmy them off very slowly. If you bang or pull on one side the rotor cocks and tightens its grip on the hub.
Fisrt off clean the hub with sand paper… as close to the rotor as you can. Tear a 12" band and work the hub by the rotor.
If there are any holes in the rotor hat, try to get PB Blaster in there.
Next heat the shit out of the Rotor hat. Use 2 Mapp propane torches or a OXY if you have it. Try to heat it up fast.
As its warming up spray Blaster on each stud, on the hub, and Behind the rotor on the hub face.
Get the hat HOT. If you have any “AIR DUSTER” Hold the can upside down and spray the INSIDE on the hub only. Freeze the hub and the hammer the shit out of the disc.
Slam it with a sledge horizontal, square on the rotor hat.
Then hit it from the back side. Medium effort alternating between opposite sides of the rotor… try to shimmy it off slowly.
The temp differences and resulting clearance should get it off.

def try that and also i dk if u did this but go to the backing plate and get a brake spoon in there and try to loosen the adjusters i see them all the time at the dealer i work at where they wont come off untill u loosen them, if they wont loosen then u have to cut the adjusters from the back side and the drum should pop right off
^ Thanks for the advice. It didn’t work, but it was worth a try. I only have one mapp torch but I got it pretty damn hot.
I do have an update though. One rotor off, one to go. Searching around my garage I came across a 110v angle grinder that I forgot I had. Nothing like a whole lot of frustration and what basically amounts to a giant fucking dremel tool to add to the destruction.
Cut that thing from the outside edge to within 1/2" or so of the hub (closest I could get without hitting the hub). Then took the 3 foot crowbar and start prying the life out of it. Once the rotor was looking suspiciously like a lock washer a few taps from the sledge knocked it loose.
I’ll take picture of the aftermath on these poor rotors tomorrow.
