I may have to go pick up a viper for the summer. Is the market for these really this bad? Where is Dan?
10k miles, $50k? :wtf:

I suppose I could start by saying if I had 50g, I’d buy a 930 911 turbo and if I couldn’t find one of those, I wouldn’t buy a Viper.
The market for all higher-end cars is in the tank right now, Viper included.
[for SRT-10’s] Plain and simple, unless it is a special edition of some sort, a 2006 coupe, or a 2008, the market is soft, REALLY soft.
50 grand for a 2004 w/10K miles is lower than expected by about 5-10K, though not impossible. From the pictures it looks like a plain-jane Black on Black, which doesnt help its value. The values of red/black/silver on black 03-06 cars took a MAJOR hit because Dodge in their infinite wisdom ran the same 3-4 boring colors for 4 years straight.
As stated above, unless its a Mamba [especially a White one], a Copperhead, a 2006 Coupe or a Commemerative/VCA edition car [white/blue Verts/Coupes], the market is really, really soft.
I would however not expect the market to remain this soft, now is the time to buy. A combination of factors from the housing market, gas prices, and especially the rapid release of 2008’s on backorder flooding the market with trade-ins is helping, a lot. However, once those demands are satisfied, the market will creep back up. The 03-06 SRT’s have far more mod potential than the 2008’s, so they will be scooped up by the mod-hungry guys before long. 2008+ is a major let-down if you are thinking of over 800 horsepower, the changes, computer system and methods used to get the power out of the platform are currently irreversible for anything resembling a reasonable price, and will likely stay that way.
Not to mention, IF the Viper is canceled in a few years like the doomsayers claim, expect a SHARP increase.
And thus begins another pointless tangent. Did anyone ask?
And people wonder why Viper threads derail. This one didnt even make it past post number… TWO!
the srt-10s seem to be much less desirable than the older gts coups
Calm down.
it’s a perfectly valid point as to why the MARKET RATE of your beloved car isn’t as high as it used to be.
People choose other models instead of the viper. Less demand becomes more supply. Etc, etc.
ugh the blue with white stripes gts is BEAUTIFUL
^ word i just cheked ebay, theres a 1996 Hennesey 1000 hp twin turbo venom for 75k on there.
UGHHH
Incorrect. SRT’s have outsold all previous generations in units per year by a good margin.
You are just seeing the result of a car that is out of production, and a car that is still made and more frequently traded to and from.
One doesnt have a lot to do with the other right now. ALL “toys” are in a slump at the moment, so the markets have pretty well flat-lined at an equal rate.
While it may HAVE a valid point overall, that was not its intention. It was just another “why this car I dont own is better than that car I dont own” post. It was an answer to a question no one asked, and its that same exact thing that time and time again derails the Viper threads to the point of no relation to the original poster.
I am hardly in need of calming down, I really dont care one way or the other anymore. I am just pointing out what I see again and again, and what many people seem to deny is actually happening… over, and over… and over.
Thanks for the informative reply Dan. Is there a big viper forum? I may need to do some researching. I have always wanted a viper, and I may say, might even prefer it to what I had previously been saving for…
I have had the urge for an absolutely ridiculous and impractical vehicle and a Viper might really fit the bill.
PS- Walter, not sure if you are dead set on an SRT, but I know of a NICE yellow 02 RT/10 Local, for a NICE price.
Yes there is [PM me if you want them] though honestly, if you are looking for a straight answer that isnt skewed by a personal agenda and typical internet drama, just ask. I can assure you there isn’t a question you can ask I wont be able to answer.
Replied
I have been watching the Vipers over the last year and talk to Dan about the situation quite often. I hope to own one soon after I move back to Buffalo.
lol viper alley sucks balls don’t even bother with that place.
It wouldn’t be my first choice for an exotic but I’d definitely consider buying one some day.
That means the market is flooded with them therefore they are much less desirable. It goes for any car, not just super cars.
it’s def not Too shocking that they’ve dropped that much in price, i was looking at them for shits about 6mos ago - and yeah man, the prices you’re listing are quite good compared to gas about a dollar ago for premium
post up numerous pics when/if you decide to do it up! i’m with you… if i were to get another domestic for any reason, it would be the craziest one I could afford. Good choice for this category.
you have the same user name there?
