If you’re in the market for an '05 Neon srt-4 with no coolant, they have two.
My brother and I showed up, looked over the silver ‘stage 2’ car first. The exterior of the car seemed ok; great tires, brake pads looked like they had some meat, the exhaust rubbed on the bumper a little but the underside was otherwise spotless. The salesman handed us the keys and said the BOV was a little annoying. I saw the mopar blue plate on the turbo slathered in liquid gasket and had an idea what to expect - I had the same blue plate on my Caliber srt-4- but this was entirely different.
It was dumping boost throughout the entire rev range. It was either plumbed to the wrong vacuum line or just a bad boost leak. The car could spike up to 15psi, and quickly dwindle down to 5psi. Still half interested, we pulled back in the lot to look around for any obvious boost or vacuum leaks (other than the liquid gasket) and noticed the coolant reservoir was bone dry…
Having lost all interest in the silver car, we went back in and asked for the keys to the orange one just to compare the two. Sure enough an empty coolant jug was waiting in that one too. We gave the keys back and left.
If you’re marketing cars that attract enthusiasts, you should at the very least try to cover the basics.
Is it not the responsibility of a dealer to at least run over the basics before reselling a car? I mean…why go to a dealer if they just are flipping junk trade ins for profit?
If it came in with those problems they should have docked the trade in accordingly and then made the repairs/refills before it hitting their lot for sale.
The boost leak/vaccum issue should have been fixed. Did you check the level of the radiator. The radiator could still be full when the reservoir expansion tank is dry.
ehhh, not likely. When the engine cools down the system will suck in from the reservoir. I doubt it stopped contracting at the exact moment the reservoir emptied. PLUS wasnt the coolant check after it was driven? Therefore the engine should have filled the tank a little.
I thought about looking in the radiator but it was still hot. It might have been worth pursuing even with the boost leak if the price was right… but the coolant thing just gave me a bad feeling about the place.
