Z31NA2T's Less-Ugly Z-car: 74 260Z

I’ve always loved these cars, and I’m going to reserve judgement until it’s finished! Best of luck to you, keep the pictures coming!

Guess people don’t know how to read. The car isnt that rusty, its surface rust except the one small spot at the back of the passenger frame rail.

Simple fix for that tiny spot. Pinch welds are still good.

I have seen cars waaaaay worse than this turn out absolutely supurb.
You could have a beautifully restored car on here and a couple people on here would rip on you for having the wrong caps on your tire valves. It makes them feel superior I guess.:gotme:

Well that doesn’t look too bad, a floor pan kit and some baddog frame rails would make it really solid, especially since the rails up by the tensions rods look pretty mint.

That looks like a nightmare to work on, I hate rusty bolts fighting you on everything you do. to you for having the patience to restore this. Look forward to seeing some progress.

Surprisingly, 99% of the all the bolts come out as if it were a brand new car. As I said, its not as bad as it looks in the pictures.

this looks like a total piece of crap and its still WAY cooler than any Z31

EDIT: wrong thread multitasking fail

Glad you can call a car you know nothing about a piece of crap basing it off pictures.

You think that, except mine is all metal. If you bought one for $500, most likely it has a crap load of fiberglass in it, probably even fiberglassed floors…seen it a lot. Hows the interior? My original crack-free dash is probably worth more than your $500 S30.

keep this thread updated. i want to see the progress on this

<3 old Japanese cars, best of luck on the build.

Just saw this thread. Completely agree with this.

You’re just defending your own kind, old and rusty. :funny2:

Z31NA2T…do you have any pics of finished cars that you are trying to make this car look like when you are done? I’m trying to get an idea of where this project is going.

X…

Posted in the wrong build thread, LOL.

This project is going to be, basically, a stockish looking 260Z with a L28 with triple webers.

this thread sucks.

BYE BYE L26!

Other than that its been an incredibly slow project. I’ve boughten a good bit of parts, but havent done much work. Floors are most likely getting done this week, as well as frame rail work…I hope to get the L28 out of the donor car sometime in the next couple weeks too, and hopefully get me E88 head sent out to have new-style valve guides put in for unleaded fuel, have the valve seats cut, new valve seals, and have the head shaved a slight bit. I did get a good master cylinder on it today, but I’m going to replace all the brake lines and such as well as put the rear disc setup on it.

Crappy cellphone pic but…say bye bye to the crappy floors.

WTF, somebody stole my drivers floor!

I picked up some fiberglass fenders for $80 for the pair. With them I got rusted stock headlight buckets, and lower valance things…also got a set of good turn signals which are worth a decent amount, so it was completely worth the $80…LOL

New floor is going in for good today, to be welded up nice and tight. Passenger floor will be done next week. I also sent the E88 head off the L26 to the machine shop for a quote on decking it, a valve job, new style valve guides, and cleaning it up. Hopefully then I can get it on the L28 and the CR should then be around 10.5:1.

Currently the floor pan is just set in there. Its getting welded in tonight after we do a bit of grinding/sand blasting to ensure all the rust is gone from around it. Going to need to extend it a bit, too.

With this will come 280Z style turn signals, as much as I prefer the 240Z/early 260Z turn signals, I couldn’t beat the deal I got on this air dam…
