Drop top Fun
Cons:
hardtop is a way better car especially in handling
looks ok but not great
Similar engine to the old M3 and Z3 M roadster which had overheating problems?
They are nice for sure but if I had the choice it would definitely be the coupe. The coupe looks way better and if it handles better as well then its a no brainer for me.
I drove one back to back vs. boxster/cayman… the M is really fun, but there is a reason people buy the cayman at a higher price. the z4 is very fun, but then you get in a caymen and it feels like old technology.
i’ve driven both the roadster and the coupe, and as for handling, you could barley tell for ever day beating on. Maybe on the track you could tell but road twisties at 60mph was fine.
if you’d be that worried, you can just and a front and rear strut brace to help with stiffness.
i think they are awesome cars, and i dont know about the overheating. i know a few people with that engine and i cant say i’ve heard that one before.
Z4 has been a fav of mine. IMO, black is the best color. The car is so sexy!
I pass one everyday to work and everyday my head turns.
My S2000 isnt a hardtop, thought it could be, and it handles like a dream.
Plus I love dropping the top and cruising on nice days.
Besides, I use the convertable more then I use the handeling…know what I mean?
I wont sell the S but I will be test drive a Z4 this spring
S54 motor for the win, overall a good car, good brakes (M3 comp package brakes), personally I like the coupe better, but for a no daily car it is great, no issues yet with overheating, read the Z4M forum over at www.bimmerforums.com for a bit more in depth about them. Try to weed for the crap about clears on there though.
I love the Z4 M. It’s a car I would consider getting after I’m through with my S2K. But I would definitely get the coupe. It’s a perfect size for a sports car in my opinion and it looks a lot better than the roadster version. Although it is nice to be able to drop the top, I’m sure I’ll be through my convertible phase by then.
I just knew my grandpa had a Z3 M with the 315 HP engine and he got a letter from BMW about proper warm up and cool down to avoid failure and extended his warranty for free.
