Ok gang, time to get our selves prepped and ready for one of the greatest roadtrips you’ve ever had.
http://www.tailofthedragon.com/
Timings:
27 May 0700am - Depart Etobicoke for Tail of the Dragon
27 May 9:00pm - Stop for overnight enroute
28 May 8:00am - Depart for Tail of The Dragon
28 May 4:00pm - 6:00pm - Arrive at Fontana Village - host Hotel for ZDayZ
BTW, did I mention that we drive about 1/2 of the Tail Of the Dragon just prior to arriving at FV (Fontana Village). So you better save enough of your driving expertise to handle that drive after a long day on the highways.
Return Trip:
We’ll be departing FV on Sunday morning (time TBA) and will basically repeat the same route home.
POC (Point of Contact):
Myself and another will provide our cell numbers as a central point of contact for any coordinating needs.
First meet will be at Vuk’s place in Etobicoke.
We should be looking at a departure from his place at ~ 7:00 am.
The final timings for this will be confirmed soon.
First stop should be somewhere near KW along the 401. Members down in that region can assist by selecting an even better local close to the 401 that has Sunoco gas as well. We should arrive at tha stop at ~ 9:30am.
Next stop will be in Windsor at another Sunoco on the main drag just prior to the bridge to Detroit. Again, mmbers in that area can scout out a suitable Sunoco in the way into Windsor.
Successive stops while in the US will be determined by another Caravan thread in the General Forum section. This is to accomodate our southern friends to join up with our Caravan.
We will be trying to go as far as we can on the first day. We’ll probably make it to mid or southern Kentucky.
Things to bring;
-Passport or equivilent identification. I breezed through the border with mine last year compared to others who did not.
-FRS radio. This way we can all talk to each other enroute and aloows others to inform others of car troubles and emergency pit stops if required. It also makes for a great way to stay connected with others while enjoying the Tail of The Dragon. They’re not that expensive and can be had from any Canadian Tire, Wallmart and the like.
-American currency. No need to explain the reason here. This gives you the chance to accumulate some US funds at a possible better exchange rate.
-Normal roadtrip tools and equipment. And for pete’s sake, those of you with key type lug nuts, don’t forget your lug nut key. (Right Giovanni )
Accomodations:
I’ve already secured mine with the possibility of a member from my area bunking in with me. Although Fontana Village (host hotel for event) says it’s booked, I recommend that those wishing to stay there go to ZdayZ 2009 - Page 47 - MY350Z.COM - Nissan 350Z and 370Z Forum Discussion . There has recently been a few who have offered accomodations at Fontana Village due to cancellations and the like.
I’ll be staying here and seeing some old friends from last year there - http://www.tuskeegeemotel.com/ It’s not a 5 star place by any stretch but it’s clean, it’s cheap, it’s friendly, they’ve got onsite snack bar and gas pumps and it’s about a 10 minute drive to Fontana Village. I always enjoyed the extra morning and late evening drive to/from the motel just to get the blood pumping anyway.
More detailed info to follow as we get closer to D Day.
