I’ve been having a problem recently with my truck not running…it will start up no problem, but then dies before it idles at all, not even 2 seconds. The red (I’m assuming) security light on my dash comes on, with the lock and a car inside it. This usually only happens if I shut the truck off, and try turning it back on without letting it sit for a while (any kind of shopping/errand running is quite annoying) I usually don’t have problems getting it to start after its been sitting all night, when I leave for work - or when I leave work to go home. Any ideas? I have NOT taken it to the dealer, my mom had problems similar to this with her pontiac and they replaced a bunch of things and never actually fixed the problem. Ideas? I’ve googled it to all hell with no luck.
I know on the impallas and such the easist way is to unplug the securty stuff off the ignition while the car is running, then it goes into a safe mode but you wil get a blinking securty lite but the car will always start
The ignition cylinder in the steering column is likely starting to go. There is a little “sensor” the makes contact with the key when you start the vehicle. It is a GM issue and I have seen various Blazers/S10s 2000 and up. I did a 2002 S10 this past Fall and the cylinder was ~$80 at Autozone.
It took me about 2 hours start to finish. Be careful when removing the key switch itself. If you break that you’re fucked.
Good luck.
EDIT: Oh, you can google “GM PassLock issues” to see TONS of info.
colorado/canyan/i-290/h-3 are there own animal wharn it comes to GM passlock issues … it DOES NOT share the same system as the others
This. I know just enough to know better… I’ve seen a few issues with these, but never the end result, or repairs done.
Prob. not the best news I’ve had today! What do you guys think for repair, just bite the bullet and take it to the stealership? I can feel my wallet getting thinner already
So while browsing through forums and forums of passlock related problems, I found one page that said they simply used another key. I grabbed my spare before work today, it worked! I’ve shut it on/off several times the past few hours and no issues, no security light, started up right every time.
Get some more keys cut…
