98 POS gmc sierra 1500 security issue

One day I went to start my truck and my ignition and steering wheel were locked up. Some how the tumbler got stuck in the housing. I took the column apart and tried using a screw driver to start it. The truck started for a second then shut off. Figured it was something security related (not having the key.) Bought a new coulmn with key, after swapping it does the same thing. Checked fuses, relays. Anyone have any idea how to disassemble the security device or think of any other possibilities?

Thanks,
Joe

The new key is probably a different resistance, try this.

try turning key to on position, wait 10 mins for the security light to either shut off or go solid (don’t remember which one, but after 10 mins you’ll see). Then turn car to off position. Do this 2 more times. Then try to start truck. It should relearn the key in the cylinder and give you no issues from there. Yes it’s annoying because its going to be 30 mins of just waiting but should take care of the issue.

Had to take it to the dealer to reset the passcode. After 2 hours trying the relearn procedure I gave in. Thanks though!
