1080 vs. 720p?

Attention Nyspeed police: I searched and found no info.

I currently own a 1080i plasma and I am looking to buy another TV.

I heard that 720p is just as crisp as the 1080i.

I havnt had time this weekend to go into bestbuy and compare the two.

Does anybody have experience with the two?

The online reviews seem biased.

Me too, I just dont see the difference.

What size tv?

anything under 50 you shouldent notice a difference

what if it was a 52’ ???

im looking into picking up ap a tv and its a 46’ 720p and a 52 1080p …

does the ratio thing do anything like a 50,000:1 or a 12,000:1 ??

not to shit on the post here but i feal the info will help also

1080i = 720p

1080p != 720p

depends how close to the TV you’ll be sitting, contrast ratios vary a lot by manufacturers, so I can’t help you there, other than the higher the better

well i know i will be about 25 feet away from the tv

x2

In college I had a 42" 1080i at home and a 27" 720p in my dorm and didnt notice a differente.

I went to a true 1080p 42" and its obvious now.

A 52 foot screen is going to look much better at 1080p. :wink:

lol shit ok well i missed shifted if you will

just buy what u can afford, its not that big of a difference anyways.

If youre asking the question, you probably wont notice the difference between 1080P and 1080i, assuming all else is equal. Seriously.

Watching standrd tv channels, theres not going to be jack difference, its all in how the tv handles the signal. But playing BD’s, you can absolutely notice the difference. Its obvious to some, and others it can take a while to figgure out what theyre looking for.

But basically, get a tv you can afford. If you like it, thats all that matters. Just remember that those super cheap tv’s are super cheap for a reason, they almost always look terrible. And from people i know purchasing them, two different cheapo brand tvs failed within months or purchasing.

I’d say this is the best advise so far…

1080P is nice and is “better” for larger screens, but not a requirement.

I run a 720P front projection setup with a 120" screen; with an up-converting DVD player.

I remember watching Batman Begins on DVD and seeing the pores in Christian Bale’s face with my setup… That’s plenty good enough for me.

just read this

720p does not equal 1080i although it may appear that it does

i think the 1080 is compatible with blue ray and not 720.

im using bluray on my 1080i and it looks damn good.

I personally would be more concerned with the 120hz screens. I saw the new one and think its a lot better than the standard hdtv.

If you want to future proof, IMO you should go all out and just put the money up front. Take advantage of the shitty economy and take a promotion 0% interest for 24 months and get a better one if you are hooking useful stuff up to it. Don’t be someone with a 50" 1080p TV and use non HD service.

BluRay is only 1080i or is that all your tv supports?

bluray is 1080p, my plasma supports 1080i

just buy a plasma and not worry about refresh rates.
