1080 vs. 720p?

lets make this thread really easy.

1080p > 720p > 1080i

the larger the screen, the more noticeable the difference but don’t forget that resolution is simply one of many factors that make a good TV.

the fact that a TV is branded Polaroid should make you run.

lol good samsung 50" it is

Im sure its in the settings and you could either figure it out or read the manual… Fuck $250.

Hurry lol. They are almost sold out.

I thought this too, but the salesman gave me some spiel about only certified people have to the code to access the menu. I’m sure I could find them online.

And how could it make it cooler? By reducing power to the fan? That would make less air coming out of the vents but would keep more hot air inside of the tv which is a no no.

Good luck getting one of those Samsungs, I went to bestbuy last week and tried to get one for $999.00 and they were all sold out, online as well. I ended up getting a Panasonic 50’ for the same price Online at bestbuy with fre shipping etc.

this is the black friday price… i know someone that will hold one for me :snky:

Seems to be alot of advice from people that don’t know what they are talking about in here.

tell us how it is then

So give us your input mr high and mighty or are we not worthy?

Yeah seriously. So much bad information in this thread.

well then speak up oh wise ones… better yet, tell us what’s in your living room.

how do you figure? 1080p and 1080i are the same thing, one just uses interlacing. The resolution is the same between the two.

If you have a good 1080i set with some decent filters, you really shouldn’t even be able to tell it apart from a p TV of the same specs. I’ve never once noticed scanlines on my set, and it’s not exactly top of the line.

with that said, yes, if you’re going with a smaller display, 720 is fine… but on a moderate to large TV, if the price is pretty much the same, I’d go with 1080i over 720p in a heart beat

720p looks a lot better than 1080i especially with any fast motion. I’ve yet to find a single example where 1080i looked better than 720p on my plasma.

and I wasn’t aware of any screens that could do 720p but not 1080i (and the other way around). apparently you know something I don’t?

compare 720p to a 1080 P on a larger screen and you will see a difference. 720p and 1080i are different formats in displaying the image on the screen and 1/2 the rate of the progressive scan.

i dont get what the last part of your post is saying tho. i just hope you are not saying that all tvs that can do 720p can do 1080i. Most 720p tvs can take a input of 1080i/p and down convert it to 720p but they cant magically take a 720 singnal and make it a 1080.

that’s because it’s displaying the picture 1 frame/field @ 50 times/sec opposed to 1/2 a frame/field @ 25 times/sec X 2

1080p is superior, but a good 1080i set is still worth a look imo I watch hockey and football on my set and haven’t noticed any scanlines or blurriness

a 1080 set and a 720 set are 2 totally different things. They can convert signals, but you’re not running true 720 on a 1080 nor 1080 on 720. It’s the same (and more obvious) as running 1280X1024 resolution on an LCD monitor capable of running 1600x1200, it will work but it wont look as good as if you were running it on a screen that’s native resolution was 1280X1024

I picked up the same 50" samsung from stereo advantage 2 weeks ago for $999…nice tv.

You can buy/DL a DVD to “optimize” the TVs settings yourself.

God you people make me want to shoot myself some times… I looked for a TV back in the day, did about 30 minutes of research and I know more than 90% of you…

Get a fucking clue people
