I have an 89 180sx and I seem to have a leak coming from the left side of the engine(intake side) and I cannot see where it is coming from:( The smoke seems to be coming out just above the oil filter but like I said it’s not visible. I am assuming it is most likely an old, split hose but is this a common problem for the CA’s and can anyone suggest something other than taking the whole intake manifold off? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Hey if you have a CA then I had the EXACT same problem happen to me.
The heater hose which connects right at the BACK of the motor cracked and blew coolant all over. I ended up just cutting out the heatercore and looping the line back to itself.
The joy of old motors Are you local to Milton, ON at all?
btw I hope you have small hands, it is a HUGE pain in the butt to get in there… I spent a lot of time lying on my back under my car trying to FEEL (because you can’t see) where the hoses connect.
I live in etobicoke. I was squeezing the lower rad hose and I can hear air coming out from what sounds like the back of the intake. I tried soaking everything with soapy water trying to hear where it’s coming from but so far the sound of the air has not changed. I will jack up the car and try it from the under side. As far as the tiny hands, no, but is that not what girlfriends are for:)
yea ca’s are nightmares with old coolant hoses, in 1 summer i replaced 4 different ones
i gave up and got a sr
Hah only if they like getting covered in oil and coolant!
My car was the exact same way. The coolant hose connects to a hardline at the BACK of the head and if you’ve got a RHD car the master cylinder is going to be in your way.
On mine the line cracked RIGHT where it connected to the hardline that runs under the intake manifold.
The only real way to get at it is from under the car
You can see the lines here, it’s easy when it’s out of the car but when it’s IN there it’s a PAIIINN
