180sx

I turn 20 next month. I understand Y it should be more for insurance on a rhd car. But they had to go thru all this stuff. Contact the highups and such and they said it didn’t make a difference whether it was rhd or not.

from what i hear its actually not more on rhd cars in most cases, consdier that there is not history on the car you are importing in this country, so the rpice is dependent on value of the car the type of car and the year, if you dont get colission i beleive you dont even need an appraisal so in reality youll probably pay similar to waht a 240 owner would pay

am i reading this thread correctly? your wondering if you can swap an sr20 into an rhd vehicle? thats like asking if 300zx rims will clear 300zx brakes…

as for ca vs. sr, i think most people would be happy with just an ca upgraded alittle.

That’s what I was figuring too RD_Man. I was told between 5-7 g’s it would be about 300 a month 3600 a year. Which is what I pay for my shitty acura anyways. Anyway, thanks for the help and input guys. I definately know a hell of a lot more now then when I started this thread about 5 hours ago.

 $300?

I just got a new rate now that I’m 21… $175/mo 8)

Let us know how it goes if you get a final quote for it.

It’s a company called Coachman, they don’t deal with anyone under 21 which is why I hadn’t heard of them.

also talk to the guys at japaneseimports.ca, they will be able to guide you through the process as well as aquirig the veicle for you.

There is at least one guy on these boards with a Silvia K. Apparently insurance is no problem, it’s actually cheaper than a 240 because the silvia’s have no history and they get listed as Stanza’s . IIRC one of their skylines got insured as a 89 maxima.

Talk to RBC about this type of insurance and shop around. Also as a 20 year old, living in the gta as a primary driver, expect to pay over 300 a month for basic insurance on a 89-90 240sx. definately more than an integra.

good luck

This may be a REALLY stupid question but does the Silvia K’s/Q’s share a lot of parts with the 240sx? I’ve been lookin at a couple Silvias also but figured I would be paying out the yang for parts.

Well my technique involves my company bending me over and feeding it to me constantly…

My insurance company loves me… They love my money… Hell… they love my car. Now i am uninsured and my 240sx is a track car only… Hell it beats paying over 10k a year for insurance… Hell with 10k a year, i’d buy two sr20det 240sx… just crash em at the track and i’d still come out a winner.

Best case scenario is just to keep getting quotes from insurance companies, and know that it wont be cheap regardless…

On another Note. Axelrod… Do you have the number or address for Coachman?

Send me a pm

u cant get a 180 with a red top legally because they didnt come in the cars until 91, and as of jan 1st the newest you’ll be able to legally insure and drive is a 1990. wait a year and a month.

^^^ honestly now.

That was a FYI, cuz he clearly doens`t know left from right here.

I didn`t give that info for importing purposes either…not like he will

how many ricers/noobs come on 240 / 300z forums…saying

“import this import that, JDM YO this JDM YO that.”

honestly…in a few weeks, he`d have done the research and found out that he was asking farfetched questions…and importing is a waist of time and money…

and if you import a CA…thinking in the most unlikely event…obvisouly you want the JDM YO !!!ONEONEONE111!!! SR20.

Sell me the CA18 for 900 to subsidise the SR20.

Thanks.

here, go crazy

I like Ebay and all but I don’t think I’d trust it for cars.

Whats a ‘Sylvia’?

I was wondering the same thing

Axlerod that is messed, I’ll make note of that on my list of evil companies.
I didn’t know that happened to you.

This is such a sad post!! i cant help to shake my head about pretty much all the questions being asked!!

Dude why the F… do you want to import a 180sx? when there are tons of 240sx available here in Canada!

Lets think about that for a sec… Stock (rusty) 1990 240 with 250,000km on trader goes for $3000. Stock (probably rusty) 1993 240 with 200,00km goes for $4500

Stock Silvia/180SX with about 100,000km not rusty goes for $8000, which do you choose?

You can’t see the 180SX/Silvia in person before you buy it and have to trust your seller. And you can find a 240 with a mint frame and no body rust if you look hard enough. I bought one with a mint frame and bubbles around the 3rd brakelight on the hatch for 3500. (no rust anywhere else) A 50 year old guy with only a daughter (yea, I made sure when I was looking for a car that no male near my age has touched it for a good reason :D), the guy had oil sprayed it every year and took great care of it. He bought a new RX-8 and didn’t need the 240 anymore. He was originally asking for 6K for it. Then again, I also saw a ton of rusted up, wreck-repaired 240s for about 3K, so just keep looking. My buddy got a mint in EVERY way RX-7 FC turbo anniversary edition for 5K, and FC turbos usually go for a lot more even for the ones that are in half decent condition.

I’d choose Stock (non rusty) 1991 240 with 106,000km for $5000.

That and just because they’re jap imports doesn’t automatically make them non-rusty, super crazy ultimate pristine 100point Concours cars. $12k for an 88 CA Silvia is a lotta cash, especially buying the car sight unseen. There are people who will pay that much and more. Not to say that you can’t get find a mint, low-mileage one owner Silvia/180SX. But it shouldn’t be automatically assumed that every Japanese import won’t have the usual problems – even with under 100k. 16 years can really do a number on cheap S13 steel.
