1926 Arts & Crafts House Project Thread

Awesome house. Congrats!

Whoever painted that house should never paint again. Worst cut-in lines i have ever seen lol.

Love it minus the kitchen
any new landscaping?

Great looking place Mike! Let me know where you find the reclaimed lumber, I have been dragging my feet on making some shelves for above the tv in our living room.

Place looks awesome Jags.

Thumbs up. Congrats again.

I know I have already pmed you but this is exactly what I want to buy in the next year or so now that im finally about done building the FD. I showed this house to the GF before you bought it to show that we can get a nice place in a great neighborhood for a decent price. I am super jealous. Great job man. Beautiful house in a great area.

Wow I love the look of it, and 9ft basement ceiling in Buffalo house, that is awesome. Look forward to more pictures! It looks like it has been very well maintained too. The lack of overhead cabinets in kitchen is annoying but I like the look they went for…

Is that a steam radiator? It looks likes one from this company http://steamradiators.com/steam-radiator-sv.html

Been considering that to replace one or two of the old cast iron ones in my place (1920’s build)

Not sure where it’s from but looks similar to the one in your link.

Dude, that’s an awesome house:tup:

Chances are most of the trim was probably painted originally. I have been told that back when a lot of these houses were built painting trim was new “in” thing to do. I have the exact same stuff in my 100 y/o house, and when I stripped it down there is no evidence it was ever stained. It looks like whoever painted did a great job, unlike a lot of places (like mine) who did an awful job putting latex paint on top of oil based paint and putting multiple layers of wallpaper over every surface of the house, including ceilings and in closets. I have spent the last 3 years trying to undo all the crap, and get it to where your house already seems to be. Im jealous. Nice purchase.

You have my hell, shit paint jobs, so much of my trim has pealing latex paint, Behr horseshit… ugg. Although the wierd park is some of my molding do look stained where the paint has been chipped down. I’d love to start going room by room and stripping it all down to bare wood and restain.

It was amazing when my mom ripped up the carpeting and linoleum flooring in her house in utica it was all beautiful hardwood with barely any bad spots. We had it all redone and it came out gorgeous.

I did that last year in my house. Fortunately all the trim was painted originally…Unfortunately it was a huge PITA to strip everything down to the wood. I tried just about every method available to me and nothing was easy. In hindsight it probably would have been easier to remove it all rather than stripping it in place. I have seen on one of those DIY home shows where you can bring old painted wood and a company will strip it bare without damaging the wood in any way. But I recall is was pretty expensive.

Has anyone else had any success stripping old molding before?

Its like finding a hidden treasure. I cant believe how many homes I have seen this done in. I imagine it must have been the cheaper, or perhaps easier option to refinishing the hardwoods.

Updated project pics on page 1 and now FOR SALE. Moving to Ohio.

Sux man. But congrats on the promotion. Lots of new Pella windows in the house too
