With all my new found free time, ive been catching up on life in general, but the other day i arrived at the shop early and decided to pull the BMW out of its hole and go get some supplies.
2 packs of assorted small wire brushes
4 cans of brake clean
1 big spray bottle of Purple power
1 bottle of reasonable acidic wheel cleaner
started to scrub off all the oil dirt and corrosion. Ill prob wind up having to soda blast stuff for the final cleanup before paint, unless i find that a wire wheel on the drill does a good enough job.
Compare the below pic to the pic in the first post after the city bag removal.
currently looks like this: (battery and ecu are out so i can warranty out the battery)
I had no idea these bikes could look so rad until I saw your build thread. If I ever have funds to buy a first bike, I want one of these. Nice progress! Oh and I agree with the bike Focus posted, tires look mean
looks like Tantaka. Its awesome but i wont be cutting the frame on this bike.
In other news, heres a pic of one of my fathers old BMW’s … the one he had when i was born … and the one that was at the center of my parents splitting ways (mom threatened to bash it with a hammer)
The brick has been moved to the new shop and ive started working on it again seeing as i now have enough room to lay on the floor w/o kneeling against a wall in the process.
So I picked up a 8" brass wire wheel, installed it on my 4 1/2" grinder and started pullin stuff apart. I later picked up a few more smaller cup wheels to aid in my cleaning.
Tins will be blue w/ narrow white racing stripes, frame will be black, all the aluminium bits will be either gunmetal or the blue / white scheme

vac lines are shot, crank breather hose is shot, one of the lower throttle body boots is cracking along w/ 2 of the uppers … so i kinda took more stuff off:
Horrible pic, but the shaft if cleaned off in the 12 oclock to 3 oclock section leaving the wear pattern visable. Still looks 100% servicable in person …
Cleaning up the muffler. 2 heat shield mounts were poorly repaired and need to be patched w/ stainless wire. Final step will be to sandblast the muffler and pipes to hid all the surface imperfections.
Fuck if i know, lol. You got any headlights laying around that dont look like total dog shit ? And do you have a mig set up w/ .030 or preferably .023 ? (mines .035 and i cant get new drive rolls for it anymore)
I THINK my mig is .030 but not positive… I have a spare 7" round headlight from a honda…complete bucket with all the parts you’d need…bulb might be shit but it’s just a $8 sealed beam.
