1998 cobra build thread

Looking like this thing will be sick. Sucks about the engine, but I was always scared of that so I never had the guts to boost it.

I ran 3 passes with my car this year, never really drove it that hard but my best was a 12.07 too haha. @ 123 though, with a 1.85 60’ All on 11psi

Busted the clutch cable leaving work 2 weeks ago and just got the new one in, it is adjusted sooooo much better than it was before, I knew I had to get around to adjusting it and it breaking motivated me. It was way too tight, released late, slipped a little, but now it is 10x better. I really wanna get back once more and snag a decent 11.

the first thing i did to this car was replace the clutch cable, and just like you said it made a HUGE improvement in shift quality and drive-ability.

ive been talking shit to my dad for 5 years about how every car i have can beat the crap out of his GTO. long story short i think hes gunna let me take one (of his two CGM LS2 GTO’s) to the track before the end of the season to get some numbers. i guess its kinda a good thing my car broke. ill shoot you a text when i head out!

i’m free on fridays usually now!!! and about damn time you wore your dad down. now put that ninja on CL to clear up some garage space!

a lil parts stock piling progress update. in regards to the build, ive purchased so far

-top end gasket kit
-billet geared oil pump
-03/04 cobra fuel tank
-03/04 cobra flywheel
-N2MB Wot box
-complete tubular K member/A-arms/front coil overs
-Tial Q BOV

i need to get:
-trac-lok rebuild kit
-03/04 cobra clutch (not totally decided yet)
-FRPP aluminator short block
-ARP headstuds

the best part about the entire scenario is the things ive purchased so far were AMAZING deals. on an up note, i start my first real job at the end of this month. so hopefully funding will improve dramatically and sooner than later this thing will be running strong again. it was trapping 119 on 6.5 cylinders. ha. i hope to dramatically improve upon that.

and after i finally get it running i need to recalibrate anything that has to do with the MAF transfer function as im stepping up from 3" to 4" MAF housings. I was pegging my MAF with the 3.5" pulley. So ill probly break the new motor in with the old cal, then swap MAF housings, WOT tune it, swap the 3.3" pulley in, WOT tune it, then race everyone in the world.

convert to map you bitch

ill stick with MEASURED air speed, as opposed to switching to CALCULATED air speed. see what i did there? plus if i switched, my car wouldnt be legal in NYS anymore. blow thru MAF setups are at my power level are more than capable.

blah blah blah. all talk, no wrenching

sorry, i forgot the unlimited funds cheat code my life. slowly but surely it will get done.

good stuff

picked up this lil beauty from my buddy on GI this morning!

for those mod motor dunces, its a markVIII motor. so ill probly be doing the COP swap as i now have the valve covers and 6 of 8 coil packs, haha. ill be forging this block, as its a teksid with real sleaves (as opposed to the +98 blocks with the spray sleeving). ill reuse the 8 bolt forged crank from my motor unless i can get a sweet deal on an entire rotating assembly.

the best part about it is, ill have the spare parts to put an entire motor together to make an 8k rpm NA mod motor screamer and throw in a fox body or something down the road!

slowly but surely. should be ordering the rest of the needed parts in a few weeks.

:sb:

stripped down the motor some tonight. i was pretty shocked to find this when i pulled the drivers side head off!

haha! head looks ok tho. i dont think the car was run like this due to the lack of damage. no big deal, like i mentioned, all of the rotating goodies will be replaced. just thought id share.

i love this build. keep it up man

just got off the phone with my machine shop :snky::snky:

How the heck…

Lol that dime is unreal.

Is that some sort of hateful sabotage?

yea how the hell did that dime get in there lol

haha. the motor sat in a garage for about a year with the intake manifold off of it. But the dime certainly isnt flat, so it was at least turned over with it in there. even still, it got past the valves somehow! i got no clue, and either does the original owner. haha.

just pending some final numbers, but probly going with a stroker kit. id like to get me some 5.0 badges.

Holy crap, lol. Someone HAD to put that in there.
