Looking great!!!

great build

got it fired up tonight! took me a while to get oil pressure. i ended up pumping a 4 quarts through the oil feed line and it worked tits. super fucking excited. this summer has blown goats for me with working so much and trying to get this car done. it ran perfect instantly, good oil pressure the whole time, burped the coolant, and changed the oil tonight. i got most of the suspension all figured out, put the front sway bar on and got the ride height pretty close. just need to go straight to an alignment shop.

all done side shot:

i need to get an alignment really badly, reasonably certain either the control arm is bent on the drivers side or i just plain dont have the k member in right spot. anyone got any tips?

cant wait to seat the rings!

take measurements from bolt locations on the k-member to the ball joint on each side as it should be symmetric.

I tried to measure center line to center line on each side and thought it was close but its visually off. I’ll take those measurements tonight.

any chance you switched left/right control arms at install?

Nope. I’ll get it as close as I can and let the alignment shop deal with it.

drove it around tonight, so that was awesome. however, its gotta tick that sounds like its coming from the drivers side head. freakola. not sure why it wouldnt tick yesterday when i had it running for 25min. im gunna try and do some more troubleshooting before work tomorrow, for some reason the car didnt wanna idle either. kinda hard to troubleshoot the tick noise by yourself when the car wont idle.

sweet! I love this car.

I bet it’s ticking because you didn’t degree your cam properly.

you’ll figure it out keep going!

Come do it for me on on concrete patio when it’s snowing then.

It’s definitely just an isolated lash adjuster on the exhaust side in cylinder 5/6, just have to pull the cover and swap it out.

we’ll find out soon enough won’t we

snow covered patio != corvette barn.

i got the car to idle, just bumped it up slightly. dunno how that was an issue when it idled perfect before. im gunna swing by the engine shop down the street and have him listen to my valvetrain pitter patter. best case scenario i have to replace on a few lash adjusters. they come in sets of 16, so one heads worth. if i have to do one, ill definitely do em all.

lash adjusters and ford “cams installed, spring compressor” tool next day aired. my only concern is that it is a primary timing chain tensioner, which would require the entire front cover to be removed.

pulled the valve cover today, found out it wasnt the lash adjusters but the secondary timing chain tensioner! on the way home from the shop the car started running rough about 100ft from my driveway, thought i blew a charge pipe or a cop shit the bed or soemthing stupid, didnt think anything of it. oil pressure was good and etc. when i pulled the valve cover, i discovered the tensioner bolts had backed out, one all the way, the other was stuck behind the intake cam sprocket, and the secondary chain got bound up and broke. so it ran for like 45 seconds with the intake cam stationary. yippie.

i probly got a few bent intake valves, so im gunna verify which cylinder is fucked tomorrow, and pull the head asap. i got a second set of b heads from the mk8. hopefully the low cr pistons allowed everything to clear and the only thing i need to do is swap the tensioner and secondary chain assembly from the mk8 and let her rip.

edit: im absolutely shocked at how well it ran taking into consideration what was happening/happened. it was all very quiet and uneventful.

Dang man don’t give up! I have two broken cars lol

haha. gotta pay to play… i just hope the pistons are okay. i feel like my dog just died. ha. to be continued…

on an up note, i did wash the car today.
