I have a 2001 Kia sephia with the DOHC 1.8 that i am working on, the dtc codes are P0342 P0128,P0422,P0411… The car wont start but it turns over, I checked the fuel pressure and that is normal checked the plugs and ect everythings good . Also, I read that some models built before june 2006 that display two of these codes may need the pcm reprogrammed and another thing online said it could be Air Temperature Control sensor…Anyone got any ideas??? Thanks
seen a quite a few pcms replaced in Kia’s…
bump
are they hard codes?
i recall reading about a recall for them
OK, did a quick search on your codes…now providing your ECU/PCM whatever you want ot call it hasn’t shit the bed and just being erratic only the first code you gave p0342 (cam position sensor low voltage) would cause the car to not start. p0128 is engine coolant temp detected low (which could cause the car not to start perhaps due to cold idle enrichment and your car dumping tons and tons of fuel pending on how the ecu is programmed from the factory). p0422 us just your secondary o2 sensor below threshold which means nothing except for emissions standards, but the car doesn’t look at that at all to help the car run properly. And the last code is p0411 for a secondary air pump not functioning which is also for emissions and usually means nothing as to how the car will operate.
Obviously my money is on the cam position sensor being fucked up which is often either a faulty sensor or you have a broken timing belt or timing has jumped a few teeth on the cams. Of course this is all providing the ECU is functioning properly to begin with.
edit: if you need work done to diagnose or fix the problem, we can help you at swerve. Give paul a call 685-8600 to set up an appointment. Just tell him you talked with Andy and I’m familiar with the situation. Hourly rate is way cheaper than it should be and we can’t give you an estimate till I diagnose the problem.

there was at least a TSB b/c they fell like flies…
x2
that was my guess was the timing jumped before anything,i am gonna check everything tho… seeing that its a kia and the lady has not alot of money she is prob going to sell it so hopefully i got a sweet winter whip lol thanks guys
thats cuz its a kia
or do the noble thing and fix this ladys car (with not a lot of money) for her instead of hoping you get a cheap winter car out of it.
FUCK.
I am way too fucking honest to work in a shop that bends over backwards for people and people still try to bitch about what shit costs.
i am going to do the noble thing for the lady if she has the money, if not i will probably still do the noble thing and fix it for her anyways …the shops labor rate is 48$ so i don’t think its gonna be that much anyways if it is even this …
nice, karma dude, karma.
I feel as if I work on cars for the love of it seeing as how I have a real job that will pay more if I work OT than wrenching cars. But man, it’s slowly changing with so many customers that I meet who want quality work for next to nothing. We’ve been super honest and really really really take care of customers and concerns and spend sooooooo much time that other places will not do (ie. explaining options and suggestions that are actually needed and not BS things to try to make extra $$). Of about 5 different shops I’ve worked with, besides the one I’m at now, DJNick out in angola has been the only other mechanic that IMO has been a real straight up hard working mechanic that doesn’t fuck people over.
yea you always have to give the customer more than one option no matter what and we always try to give the person the best deals we really dont make anything on parts just mostly labor…
