Remember to remove the old wax first! I use the Orange Citrus Goo-Gone in a spray bottle, works really well.
Some people like their skis/boards freshly waxed all the time (Me personally); and others never wax their stuff. It’s a personal thing, but IMO it’s also a conditions and riding style thing. A lot of the people who just go play in the parks and like to goof around typically like their edges dull, and their boards/skis un-waxed. If you ride/ski all over the mountain and do mainly general riding, then I’d say wax every few times out, depending on your riding style and conditions. Ice/hard-pack obviously eats the wax off more and faster than powder days. And if you have your own waxing equipment, it takes maybe 10-15 minutes to do a quick wax before you head out.
yeah i ended up just buying a kit which came with general temp wax or w/e , an iron, scraper n pretty much everything else. thanks for the tip with the goo gone.
it better snow soon!
I just got back. I feel REALLY sorry for anyone who had to pay for a lift ticket. Snow was terrible. It was a mix of man-made and natural snow, which gave you stop/go feeling under foot. As much as I hate Kissing Bridge, they make WAY better snow than HV. It’s all in the different systems the two areas (three, if you count Holimont) have. Holimont and Kissing Bridge use a “snow cannon” type snowmaker which tend to produce better quality snow (more of a “dry” snow, with less moisture content to it). Holiday Valley uses compressed air/water, and force it through a nozzle which “atomizes” the mixture and blows it in the air. The down side of that, those nozzles need to be replaced at regular intervals to ensure proper “atomization”, as they wear out over time. Also, the “mixture” can be controlled at the hydrant on the side of the slope (more or less). It just seemed like straight up water was coming out of those guns at HV this afternoon. I made three runs and left. Not putting HV down, most of the time I have a blast skiing there, this just sucked, maybe they jumped the gun to open first?
wow, I don’t pay for daily lift tickets but I thought the last two days have been pretty awesome. It was snowing nearly constantly sunday-wednesday, I don’t know how you could say it was terrible. The valley hasn’t had snow like this in over a year and a half. Sure, the man made base was a bit firm but if you are doing it right you should never feel it.
