2011-2012 Ski/Snowboard Thread!

I was hoping more people would respond. I posted on Holidays FB page about how they should make the terrian parks next year. I got a few responses and I know the whole park crew agrees.

I believe they need to make the main terrain park on the side of Morning star now. Its ideal for a highspeed life, there is more than enough room. It is a perfect mellow yet fast run.

Next would be Moonshadow. make that like it is now. Boarder cross. enough said on that.

Fiddlers elbow should be turn into a small terrain park. 15ft - 25ft jumps. nothing outragous… some boxes/rails mixed in the middle… would be perfect.

I think Foxfire is stupid becasue the whole top of the run is wasted. Plus they need to mix things, Not have jumps all together. Maybe 2 rails in a row, a smaller jump. a rail setup again, followed by 2 jumps… if you keep it on foxfire.

Edit: my thoughts, what do you think Obviously things can be switched where jumps/rails are and how many, but just giving a broad idea.

That border cross was stupid as hell. They should wreck shit and rebuild more often, not just let everything turn into ice mounds. I remember back like 04-05 when I worked there, fiddlers elbow or whatever it was called then had some nice flowly jumps on it and decent boxes. the C-box was mint and I remember a long a-frame box and a huge transfer down towards the bottom. Now everything is bomb the hill to get 2’ of air because everything is so tall.

Yeah, the parks arent kept up with as much as they should. they dont take the groomers and redo the jumps every other day from how many people they have just riding over them. A lot with what they need to do.

Interesting how they handle the parks there… at Brighton out here, the resort I mainly ride at, they have a team of about 20 guys who do nothing but setup and maintain the parts. From setting up the features, targeting the snow machines, directing the groomers, doing hand-grooming, etc. I see them out there every morning when I get there; normally when I go, I’m within the first 10 chairs heading up the resort.

They “usually” have a park crew doing that, but maybe because of the lack of snow they are quite thin this year?

still bullshit

I do have to give much credit where it is due for the crew at Holiday Valley and the park setup. With the conditions this year, they have done a fantastic job. This is the worst year to date I’m pretty sure, that they have had to deal with this little of snow. Hopefully a better year next year.

Snowboarding in Utah all this week. Snowbasin, Solitude, Snowbird and heading to Park City today. Also went snowmobiling at Snowbird which was really awesome!I think the peaks are like 11,000 feet or so. My entire body hurts lol.

Its funny that an easy trail in Utah is like a black diamond in NY haha. The Black diamonds here are just cliffs.

No snow, no money, no funding for extras.

Park Shitty is a waste of time with all of the other great terrain in Utah. (Just my opinion of course.)

If you bother going to Deer Valley check out the St Regis. BALLER!

I’m gonna be up at Brighton on Sunday, not sure when you’re leaving to head back home.

completely agree on the morningstar-fiddlers idea but it will never happen. Management gives no priority to parks at HV. Foxfire even has some potential with all the space at the end of the run but its not used. The shitty snow year is somewhat to blame but their parks have never had good flow in their current locations.

check out this video of the peak and peak parks, they even brought an airbag in last weekend. It has FLOW.

Thank you. The thing is, like everything… the more people that talk about it the better the chance of getting what we would like. What Holiday Valleys problem is, is that this day and age… people arent racing around flags as much as they are looking to hit jumps and grind on shit. They need to realize the new generation and start to accommodate to it to be successful and bring more interest to the resort.

Edit: God those parks look fun. lol someone should post that video on HV’s FB and ask why HV can do setups like that. lol

Are you serious? Why have I been going to HV??

Most of the people paying big money for condos at HV are not “grinding on shit.” My 2 cents.

I would have to completely agree with this; most resorts have limited parks compared to the rest of the terrain because the people who spend $$ are most often not playing in the park.

Hell, the “big” resorts out here have parks, but they’ve honestly not that large in comparison to the rest of the resort… and guess where most of the safety & ski patrols hang out.

Back 5 years ago they had big jumps on moonshadow and small jumps and killer rails on fiddlers. That shit was good then

I loved the setup then!!

'zactly

We were just there today it’s super nice there. Where do you like to go this is our first time here.

We leave Friday, been here since Thursday. Where are you planning on going?

While I like snowboarding HV has all I really need lol.

Ultradrive1000 - Ahh, gotcha. Brighton Resort (Right up the canyon from Solitude). I was gonna be out riding last weekend but my boy got sick from daycare and neither myself or my wife got more than 2 hours of sleep combined Friday/Sat night, and spent Sat night at the After-Hours clinic with him.
