2011-2012 Snowmobile Season

If everyone stops registering to play the money / snow game, where would our trails be? Many take for granted how fragile this sport already is, without the weather factor. Don’t play games with your reg / insurance. It’s not that much money if you can afford the sport when it’s snowing.

That’s why I am only now going to consider a 600etec ski doo to replace my last sled. gallon of oil lasts about 600 miles and gets over 20mpgs and only wieghts 415lbs.

My plan when I bought my $1400 2000 zr 600 was to ride it for a season and if I really liked the sport justify the money for an etec. No way I can justify that after this season.

I can appreciate the fuel efficiency and oil consumption but what I have is fast as shit, rides well, and I’ve put too much time / effort in to sell now. Think I’ll ride it to the bitter end, especially this year.

just something i would like to add about registrations…

if you are not a member of a club, join one. if you are a member of a club, your registration is only 45 bucks. typical club membership for the year is around 25 bucks. however, being a club member will increase the number of memberships for that club, and they will in turn get a higher percentage of funding for their trail systems. plus they get that membership money from you to help their funding.

also, consider getting a state parks permit, it is free. you can then ride on grand island, or in parks like allegheny. it does not cost anything, but from what i understand the state keeps record of how many people get a permit, so there is more/less funding allocated to the snowmobile trails there. allegheny is one such park that is a fantastic afternoon ride.

does anyone know what the extended forcast is looking like for feburary?

Spent a whopping $46.00 for an oil change this season!

I was going to mention that earlier as well. Probably part of the same personality profile of those who ride off trail and when they’re closed so they get shut down. Non club members rarely see the amount of work that club members go through not to just maintain the physical trail system, but the time spent working with the landowners. I can’t even believe the whole trail system works as well as it does.

Wasn’t aware of the parks permit. Will look into that today.

Riding through Letchworth cost money though.

That’s why I want an etec, fast, handles awesome and does great on fuel and oil its full of win, well except for the price…

New sled prices seem out of control. Ten years ago a new sled was $6500. Now it’s not uncommon to spend upwards of $10,000 or more. I know there’s inflation, but that’s alot.

Rotax has had their shit together for a while. Even their older twins were pretty good on gas and oil.

Even just a little further back, you’d had the top of the heap for $6-7k for a storm, thunder cat, MachZ etc, now the big jam is $13k+, 4 strokes, turbo…

The SDI’s where pretty decent and can be found used for a decent price.

the new etecs are okay…my zr will outrun a new 800 though :stuck_out_tongue:

they have good fuel economy and good power, though the chassis isnt that great. lots of bracing that is a good idea to add in so you dont bend and crack the thing up. also, if you watch one go through the bumps on the trails, and compare it to other sleds, youll notice the polaris and cat seem to be a little smoother and not as “bouncy” but that may also be in part to weight. the doo still has a slight edge there.

the skidoo shocks do seem to last alot longer. in the shop at hebelers they have way less doo shocks coming in for rebuilds.

I really want an XP Chassis the sdis were only til 08 the price difference is not that big from an 08 sdi to an 09 etec

The new etecs> all other two stokes.

yes your ZR is fast, but through the woods that chassis will get rocked by an XP sled all day. I don’t care that much about holeshot or going 120mph.

I ride in WNY, 99% of the time I’m ditch banging and the lightwieght sleds are awesome for what I doo.

What the hell is that little dot with 30"?

that would be Mt. Washington

Yep, elevation = snow. It’s not that we haven’t had the precipitation this winter because we’re on track for an average amount there. The problem is it’s been so warm too much of it has been rain.

If that rain storm we got Monday would have been snow it would have been a lot of snow.

I’m all for spending $25 on a club membership, I join a club every year. I haven’t registered yet, to be honest the way its looking I’m probably not going to. I’m always registered by December but with the lack of snow I keep putting it off. Its bullshit that no matter what registrations are up august 31. My quad is a full year and is supper cheap.
