Lol you guys are funny. It always seems whenever I go riding, I’m always towing an arctic cat out of the woods…Last trip, I had to flip one over off it’s hood.
I’ve already got a slot with my mechanic sometime this week to get a few things taken care of, no worries fellas, this doo won’t stay down.
I appreciate it man, I don’t know too much about sleds just yet, but I’m learning as I go along. I really don’t like doing carb work on my own anyways, but Jeff usually let’s me work along side him so I can see how he does it. I usually like to see what’s being done if I’m going to pay for it.
it was in reference to the arctic cat comment btw, when we were starting our sleds to leave for the days ride, a xp600 had a spark plug issue. thats some fun stuff changing plugs in one of those. not. lol.
as for the carb problem, i didnt read what the original issue was. is it idling high after riding then settling down after a few? this is very typical of the larger venturi of the carb for larger displacement engines. can be hard to tune out on some sleds, sometimes cant. blipping the choke to tame it down really isnt a big deal.
if this is a recent issue that has arose, def take a look. you dont want to burn down. if the intake boots are ripped, just go ahead and buy the aftermarket boysen or v force reeds, the boot/reed cage is 1 piece on those. no sense in putting stock stuff in when you can get a little more power for sometimes less monies.
Why do Skidoo riders think its OK to park 3 wide across the middle of the trail to shoot the shit with each other? Seriously, move off the trail! I came across 4 different groups yesterday all on Skidoos who parked like this on narrow trails, or right at a road crossing. Skidoos are starting to be like the midlife crisis Harley riders.
My buddy’s kid’s sled seized the motor as we approached a junction just outside Cherry Creek. Popped the hood, no coolant. Asked him why he didn’t shut it down when the warning light came on. Said it never did. Checked around…temp sensor was disconnected. Local shop did carb work last week and a good chance they never reconnected it. Operation motor rebuild commencing.
Did 140 miles yesterday and my body is feeling it today. Dropped at the East Eden Tavern, west to Eden then down through Franklin Gulf Park. South through Collins and Gowanda, stopped in Gowanda for fuel/food. Continued south through Dayton then southwest through Boutwell Hill State Forest. Looped the forest then headed back home.
Trail were pretty freakin beat. While we were stopped taking a break a group rode up asking how far to Gowanda… trying to limp a Yamaha with a totaled front suspension back to a trailer pickup point. Told them S. Dayton was way closer. Caught up with a small group going so damn slow through the woods I couldn’t even keep my stock clutch engaged following them. As it started to get dark we caught up with another super slow group, this time they had a kid on his own sled who couldn’t be more than 11 or 12 and he didn’t even have a working tail light. Way to go parents, send you kid out going so slow he’s basically a stationary obstacle and don’t even bother to make sure his damn lights work.
I see lots of clubs posting closed updates this morning. Even if a lot of the riding was marginal glad we got out when we did.
I did about 80 miles yesterday. I took off of work today last week to get some riding in before the warm up, which didn’t work out too well. Pretty much every club is now confirmed closed.
There are a few who haven’t updated to closed (Boston, Tri-County, Pioneer) but from what I saw last night I wouldn’t bother going out. Trails were beat to hell and the rain this morning won’t help.
i rode about 5 miles before i hit a HUGE ditch in ellicottville and rolled my sled and broke my thumb lol, made it back to the cabin but they could use some more snow out there the trails were beat
Actually, this is pretty standard for Ski Doo riders. It’s known as the “Break Down Pattern” and it’s where the one guy’s sled stops dead and his two buddy’s are standing there looking at it wondering when their Ski Doo’s are going to break.
Holy shit Jay were you lost! We did about half that in the same area as you in the Cherry Creek / Forestville area and I thought I was going to need a nurses aid. Between skiing on Friday and sledding on Sunday, I’m kinda glad there’s no trails open.
95dime, if I went with boyeson reed boot/housing, would you recommend upping my pilots too? I think they come std with 17.5 and I see some upping them to 20?
Sorry. Went to Holimont for a free ski day sponsored by one of my supplier’s. I went with my buddy Dave from Buffalo Sports as he hadn’t been out this year and he hooked me up with a set of boards and poles, as keeping my boards on the basement for 15 years was not kind to them.
No, we left the house that morning with every intention of putting on 150ish miles.
+1 on being glad there is nothing open right now. We rode Tuesday and Thursday, I skied Friday night and Saturday, then did that epic ride Sunday. I am not what anyone would describe as an athletic build. The only part of me not sore today is my toes.
