Big groups are more hassle than they’re worth. I ride with one or two good friends and that’s about it. I’ll post up here in case someone who doesn’t want to ride alone is just looking to tag along but I have no interest in getting a 10+ sled group together. It just turns into a shitshow at every intersection like you’re herding cats, fuel stops take forever etc etc.
^ agree a group of 4 is about the biggest I like, but I’m content to just ride with 1 other person
Don’t get me wrong, I love riding in small groups. I just figured we could put some names to faces and maybe do a little riding.
we had a group of 14 last sunday and were able to move along just fine at a pretty good pace. the key is having someone lead that is familiar with the trails and the rest of the group being able to ride at the same pace and keep up. most trails we rode around 50-60mph and mashed the throttle in the open spots. we were actually passing other small groups on the trails.
Keep doing your snow dances… 9-18" of lake effect snow predicted for the southtowns. And this time the temps are warm enough that it’s not going to be such fluffy powder.
This is going to be like starting out the first time we got snow. Warm temps, rain, quick change to snow = mud. Oh well.
The good thing is we’ve got some cold nights coming to help freeze that up. With this snow being packable the groomers should be able to make a decent base out of it, unlike that fluff we got from the last storm.
i got my fingers crossed. also got my fingers crossed that it stays snowing on the hill tonight too, planning on taking the cfr to D&D this saturday to see dale about making some tweaks
RIP Caleb Moore
That crash made me sick.
Just watched it…
Its sad… so many instances of inches decided his fate
Oops, didn’t see that posted here.
24 hour snowfall total and and it’s continuing to rise.
Hope you guys are ready to ride this weekend.
no shit…anything coming up north?
Possibly tomorrow and sat, but not much measurable.
Folsom posted last night that the farm fields were still very bare because the snow was so wind blown that it ended up at the edges. Jim from Folsom is a good guy and wouldn’t be saying that if it wasn’t true (unlike Marilla, which I think only wants to open the trail leading from the parking lot to the bar). Hoping the snow that’s falling today now that the winds are more reasonable is covering up the farm lands better.
Frankinlinville posted a picture of a pond that was supposed to be a main corridor trail and said they weren’t sure when they’d be able to open because of all the water issues.
The Tug Hill guys posted a picture of an even bigger pond, said they tried to walk over to close the gate using chest waders but the water was over their heads. Said it would probably be a while before anyone was riding out of the Grist Mill in Parish.
when i was talking to dale at d&d yesterday he said on wed they had 50’s and a couple inches of rain and it was all green…back to 20’s and snow now but he said it would be iffy on if they will have enough to ride the hill this weekend. theyre in lowville which is about halfway between tug hill and old forge.
we had just shy of an inch of snow in pendleton this morning, and a dusting in grand island.
Holland just posted an update saying they were still closed.
Tri-County said they got between 6 and 18 and are sending guys out to inspect the trails this morning. They’re worried about how wet it was before they snow too though.
I’m betting that there are a lot of trees down too. Holland should pick up some more snow today too. Their main trail from strykersville to holland got dumped on. I took my sled up to my buddies to get worked on a drive up sanders hill last night from lefort and it was terrible conditions.
IF trails are open, is anyone going riding say sunday?
